Elvis Costello turns 62 years old on August 25th – the angry young man who raged against radio and played a style of articulate pub rock that helped him find a devoted audience has grown into his role as an elder statesman of rock.

While he’s considered an essential member of alternative rock’s 1st Wave of artists, Costello (born Declan McManus) has never been limited by sounds or expectations. He’s co-written with Paul McCartney (‘Veronica’), produced and sang with Squeeze (‘Tempted’), paid tribute to the Beach Boys (‘The Other Side of Summer’) and his brothers-in-arms The Clash with notables like Bruce Springsteen and Dave Grohl. Recently, Costello teamed up with The Roots for their groove-oriented Wise Up Ghost, which may turn out to be his final album.
