In the aftermath of the Deflategate scandal, New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady was suspended four games by the NFL on Monday. Brady enjoyed a bounce-back year in 2014 in leading the Pats to the Super Bowl, upping his passer rating from 87.3 to 97.4 compared to 2013, and throwing eight more touchdowns and two fewer interceptions than the previous year.
What’s that mean? Fantasy football owners are left scratching their heads. Brady hasn’t missed a game since the 2008 season, and has been a mainstay as one of the game’s top 10 fantasy football quarterbacks – and often even better than that – each season. So where should owners pick Brady in their 2015 drafts? Kyle Elfrink and Ray Flowers broke it down on SiriusXM Fantasy Sports Radio.
“I can’t argue to make him a QB-1,” Elfrink said. “I can’t argue that he’s a top 12 quarterback if this four-game suspension were to stick.”
“I think it’s impossible if he has four games to draft him as a QB-1,” Flowers said. “There are a lot of very good quarterbacks in this day and age. The NFL throws now more than they ever have before. So you can take Tom Brady as your 2, and you can make your 1, Philip Rivers or Ryan Tannehill. … You can even take Tom Brady as your QB1 to be honest with you, at the draft. Just back him up with another guy you have confidence in.”
