This morning on the Howard Stern Show, Howard took a phone call from “Stephen” Carell.
No, not Steve.
Steve is the name for the comedy actor; “Stephen” is reserved for Carell’s dramatic efforts; at least, that’s how Howard sees it, especially now that the Stephen is an Oscar nominated actor for his role in Foxcatcher.
While he’s received all sorts of acclaim for his performance, the odds of Steve Carell winning for Foxcatcher are not so great. In fact, he’s looking at 125 to one. This simply isn’t good enough for Howard. As he’s mentioned before, Stern is a huge fan of Carell’s work in Foxcatcher. He wants to see him win, especially after Carell promised to thank Howard should he actually claim Oscar glory. To try and make this happen, he’s advising Carell to start a rumor about Best Actor frontrunner Michael Keaton from Birdman, a film that Howard absolutely despised. Who knows, maybe some bad mojo will help increase Carell’s chance at a win.
“You’re too kind a guy to do this, so I’ll do it for you. Here’s what I’m gonna say: To all the Academy voters who are thinking of voting for Michael Keaton cause he’s the odds-on favorite, I want you to take a good look at that film again. Give your vote to Steve Carell,” Howard said. “That Birdman is a lot of sh-t, and you know it.”
“So, even if I don’t feel that that is correct, I should trash talk?” Carell asked.
“You should make a speech right now talking about how Michael Keaton eats babies,” Howard said.
No word on what Eddie Redmayne, Benedict Cumberbatch or Bradley Cooper have to say about these Keaton rumours.
