Last night at Fallsview Casino in Niagara Falls, Ontario, Huey Lewis and the News proved that after nearly 40 years of rockin’, they still have the energy and songs to pull off a memorable show.
It helps that the band has an incredible string of hits that fans of the 80s on 8 know like the back of their hand. Even more helpful – that Huey and company happily played them for the crowd, many of whom had seen the band previous times, based on Huey’s informal poll.
Speaking of the singer, even at 67 years of age, he was full of boundless energy and a voice that remains incredibly soulful. It’s that distinct sound that no doubt helped the band’s songs stand out on the radio during their 80’s heyday.
Among the highlights was an early in the set rendition of ‘I Want A New Drug’, a mid-way a Capella set that once again highlighted the band’s soulful side, and solid takes on their two contributions to the Back to the Future soundtrack, ‘Back in Time’ and ‘The Power of Love’.
Seeing Huey Lewis and the News was a bucket list experience for me, and they delivered. If you have a chance to catch them live, you absolutely won’t be disappointed.
