Kenny Chesney is gearing up for the Oct. 28 release of his new album Cosmic Hallelujah, and to celebrate he gave fans of his SiriusXM channel No Shoes Radio (Ch. 57) the exclusive opportunity to hear the album in its entirety before it’s released and asks him their most burning questions.
“This is what No Shoes Radio is all about,” Chesney said. “Going direct to the people who love this music as much as we do — and giving them the chance to get inside these songs in a very personal way. This record has had a very unusual path, and I am so glad people are finally hearing this music.”
SiriusXM’s Town Hall with Kenny Chesney will premiere on Friday, Oct. 28 at 12 p.m. ET on No Shoes Radio (Ch. 57). The exclusive album preview special will air the day before on No Shoes Radio at 6 p.m. ET.
The songwriter/superstar from East Tennessee held his Town Hall Q&A at the legendary Capitol Studios in Los Angeles. During the exclusive event, Chesney discussed his creative process and the recording process behind Cosmic Hallelujah. He also delved into what influenced this album, what motivates him after so many years of success, whether he’s already working on his next record and whether he has any unrecorded gems under wraps.
Featuring Chesney’s duet with P!NK, Setting The World On Fire, and the top-five single Noise, Cosmic Hallelujah expands on the themes of The Big Revival, which yielded four straight number-one hits including the Grammy-nominated American Kids.
“There’s not a lot of songs on this record talking about tomorrow and there’s not a lot of songs on this record talking about yesterday. The thing that I’m most proud of and what I do like to say to my audience, is there’s a lot of songs about right now and living in right now and how great that is.”
Chesney discussed whether he’d ever play in smaller venues and reminisced about a small gig he played in college.
“It was on the river, I was a kid in college, and just like anybody else I didn’t know what I wanted to do with my life. All of a sudden, though, I was sitting up there on that stool, and I was playing my heroes’ songs, and I remember the first time some old lady walked up and tipped me five bucks for playing one of her favorite songs.”
Kenny Chesney also talked about Setting The World On Fire and why he chose P!NK as collaborator.
“I told her when we were in the studio, ‘You sing like you live in your own insanity,’” he said. P!NK, who in a surprising moment called in, said, “I never felt so understood!”
P!NK continued: “I loved the way our voices sound together, very, very much. We sound like we’ve been singing together for a long time.”
Chesney agreed and thanked P!NK for not only her contributions to the song but for her friendship.
“Once we got into the studio and started singing together, like she said, it was as if we had known each other our whole lives, it was almost family really,” he said. “You cannot replace that certain blend, or chemistry if you will, and I just thank you very much for singing and being a part of my life and being a part of Cosmic Hallelujah.”
In addition to broadcasting on No Shoes Radio, the Kenny Chesney SiriusXM Town Hall will air simultaneously on The Highway (Ch. 56). Listeners can also hear it through the SiriusXM app on smartphones and other connected devices, as well as online at siriusxm.ca.
