NASCAR owner shares views on Confederate flag

One of the South’s most popular sports organizations, NASCAR, released a statement on Tuesday showing their support for the removal of the Confederate flag from the South Carolina State House.

Over the years, it has not been uncommon to find Confederate flags present at NASCAR races. Brad Daugherty, a former NBA player and current co-owner of JTG Daugherty’s Racing, joined SiriusXM NASCAR Radio and shared his perspective as an African-American on seeing the flag.

“It does make my skin crawl, and even though I do my best to not acknowledge it or to pay any attention it, it’s there and it bothers me,” Daugherty said. “The old heritage vs. hate thing in my mind is ridiculous because that flag to any African-American person does not represent any type of heritage, it 100-percent represents hate.”
