Jake Allen #34, Jay Bouwmeester #19, Patrik Berglund #21, and Vladimir Tarasenko #91 of the St. Louis Blues defend the net against Leo Komarov #47 and Nazem Kadri #43 of the Toronto Maple Leafs during the third period at the Air Canada Centre on February 9, 2017 in Toronto, Ontario, Canada.

Mick Kern from NHL Network Radio here. We’re running down the must-hear NHL games of the week, including the New York Rangers at the Pittsburgh Penguins and St. Louis Blues at Toronto Maple Leafs:

Saturday, January 13th – Edmonton Oilers at Vegas Golden Knights
10:00 PM Eastern – Sirius XM 91

One team can’t seem to lose, the other can’t seem to win.  And nobody honestly expected either one. The expansion Golden Knights are playing like they’ve been together for years, and that cohesion has them riding high in the Western Conference.  Not the case for the Oilers, who are probably the major disappointment in the NHL so far this season.

Sunday, January 14th – New York Rangers at Pittsburgh Penguins
12:30 PM Eastern – Sirius XM 91

It’s been an up-and-down first half for both of these Metropolitan division rivals.  The Rangers got off to a less-than-impressive start, but have found their footing.  The problem is, the division they play in also features the Capitals, Devils, and Blue Jackets, who are all having good seasons.  Same challenge for the defending Stanley Cup champion Penguins, who may have to rely on the wildcard to see if they can become the first team to win three straight Cups since the New York Islanders in the early 1980’s.

Monday, January 15th – New York Islanders at Montreal Canadiens
7:00 PM Eastern – Sirius XM 91

A tale of two teams that are life-and-death to make the playoffs in the Eastern Conference.  The Islanders missed the cut by a single point last season, and are in a similar position halfway through this campaign.  Montreal finished first in the Atlantic Division last season, but are in real danger of sitting out this spring.  Needless to say, a big two points on the line this evening.

Tuesday, January 16th – St. Louis Blues at Toronto Maple Leafs
7:00 PM Eastern – Sirius XM 91

These old Norris Division rivals meet up in Toronto tonight, with both teams near the top of their respective divisions.  There have been concerns recently about the Blues’ goaltending.  Both teams sport better home records than away.

Wednesday, January 17th – Pittsburgh Penguins at Anaheim Ducks
10:00 PM Eastern – Sirius XM 91

While the defending Stanley Cup champion Penguins are in a real battle to make the playoffs in the East, the Ducks are in a similar position in the West.  They’ve battled injury problems all season, which is a big reason why they’re in this predicament.

Thursday, January 18th – Boston Bruins at New York Islanders
7:00 PM Eastern – Sirius XM 91

While the Lightning are the class of the division, the Bruins are also a force in the Atlantic.  They’re a well-balanced team that could go far this spring.  Boston has been pretty much unbeatable as of late.

Friday, January 19th – Los Angeles Kings at Anaheim Ducks
10:00 PM Eastern – Sirius XM 91

Always a good game when these two Southern California teams meet up.  The Kings have been a pleasant surprise this season, while the Ducks have unachieved, mainly due to injuries.  Still a lot of games left to be played in the regular season, and Anaheim are not all that far behind Los Angeles in the Pacific Division standings.
