Mick Kern from NHL Network Radio here. We’re running down the must-hear NHL games of the week, including the Vancouver at Toronto and Dallas at Chicago:
Saturday, November 5th – Vancouver Canucks at Toronto Maple Leafs
7:00 PM Eastern – Sirius XM 91
Out of the gate, the Canucks were unstoppable, as they defied expectations and won early and often. Since then, they’ve come back to Earth, and tonight face a young Maple Leafs’ team that can take two points on any given night, though are not expected to challenge for a playoff spot this season.
Sunday, November 6th – Dallas Stars at Chicago Blackhawks
7:00 PM Eastern – Sirius XM 223
Both these teams are in the discussion of Cup contenders, though both teams have been underwhelming early on. Regardless, the Stars and Blackhawks are still dangerous foes, and tonight lock horns in Chicago.
Monday, November 7th – Tampa Bay Lightning at Florida Panthers
7:30 PM Eastern – Sirius XM 220
The Battle of Florida goes tonight in Sunrise, as the Panthers host their cross-state rivals. It’s a good time to be a hockey fan in the Sunshine State, as both teams are expected to qualify for the playoffs this upcoming April. The Lightning are one of the favourites to win in all.
Tuesday, November 8th – Edmonton Oilers at Pittsburgh Penguins
7:00 PM Eastern – Sirius XM 221
Sidney Crosby against Connor McDavid. That’s a pretty impressive marquee, but this is also a game pitting the defending Stanley Cup champions against the (finally) up-and-coming young Oilers.
Wednesday, November 9th – Ottawa Senators at Buffalo Sabres
7:30 PM Eastern – Sirius XM 219
The rebuilding Sabres look to take a few more steps ahead this season, while the Senators fully expect to be back in the post-season picture, after just missing out this past spring. Early on, both teams are off to starts that have them in or near a playoff position.
Thursday, November 10th – Los Angeles Kings at Montreal Canadiens
7:30 PM Eastern – Sirius XM 221
With the long-term injury to All-Star goaltender Jonathan Quick, the Kings were thrust into a world that the Canadiens are all too familiar with…how to survive in the tough NHL traffic until your netminder is healthy. As for Montreal, it’s been another impressive start to the season, but they were in the same position this time last year when their All-Star netminder (Carey Price) went down with an injury. The result after that was catastrophic for the Habs.
Friday, November 11th – Winnipeg Jets at Colorado Avalanche
9:00 PM Eastern – Sirius XM 222
Can the Jets claw their way back into the playoffs, and what about the Avalanche? They missed the playoff cut this past spring by 5 points. While post-season invites aren’t handed out in early November, the two points up for grab this evening are still huge.
