Mick Kern from NHL Network Radio here. We’re running down the must-hear NHL games of the week, including Nashville at Anaheim and the Rangers at the Hurricanes:
Saturday, October 22nd – Montreal Canadiens at Boston Bruins
7:00 PM Eastern – Sirius XM 91
24 teams in action on this Saturday, including the Habs and Bruins in Boston. These two old rivals provide top notch hockey regardless of where they may be in the standings. Both teams are looking to make the playoffs this season in the Eastern Conference, after missing the cut last spring.
Sunday, October 23rd – Edmonton Oilers at Winnipeg Jets
3:00 PM Eastern – Sirius XM 91
It’s become must see TV when Connor McDavid takes to the ice. The young Edmonton Oilers’ captain has had a hot start to the season, and looks to push his team into the Western Conference playoff race. The Jets are also looking to get back into the post-season, after being left on the sidelines this past April.
Monday, October 24th – Calgary Flames at Chicago Blackhawks
8:30 PM Eastern – Sirius XM 219
Are the Flames a playoff team this season? Are the Blackhawks, yet again, a Stanley Cup contender this time around? Too early to tell, but the two points up for grabs tonight matter in a Western Conference that becomes more competitive with each passing year. Calgary did not get off to the start they wished.
Tuesday, October 25th – Florida Panthers at Pittsburgh Penguins
7:00 PM Eastern – Sirius XM 221
A busy Tuesday evening, with 22 NHL teams taking to the ice. The defending Stanley Cup champion Pittsburgh Penguins are at home against Florida. Many hockey prognosticators feel the young Panthers will be a Stanley Cup contender in a couple of seasons. The Panthers may feel they are already in that position.
Wednesday, October 26th – Nashville Predators at Anaheim Ducks
10:30 PM Eastern – Sirius XM 220
Both these Western Conference powers believe that they are in a good position this season to challenge for the Stanley Cup. The Ducks won it all back in 2007, while the Predators have yet to make it to the Cup Final.
Thursday, October 27th – Detroit Red Wings at St. Louis Blues
8:00 PM Eastern – Sirius XM 223
The Red Wings have made the NHL playoffs for the past quarter-century, and look like they’ll be booking another spring date this April; which runs counter to what most observers predicted coming into this season. As for the Blues, they are one of the main contenders to represent the West in the Stanley Cup Final. For the record, St. Louis hasn’t been in the Final since Bobby Orr flew through the air back in May of 1970.
Friday, October 28th – New York Rangers at Carolina Hurricanes
7:30 PM Eastern – Sirius XM 219
Only New York Rangers’ fans appeared to have any faith in the Broadway Blueshirts heading into the 2016-17 season. So far, they’ve rewarded that faith with some stellar efforts, as the Rangers fight to stay afloat in the Metropolitan Division. The Hurricanes weren’t expected to make the playoffs this season, but every year there are surprise teams that rise up and catch everyone off guard.
