Also Notable:

Our friends in The Tragically Hip have had an emotional year after revealing frontman Gord Downie has terminal brain cancer and getting on the road for one of the most remarkable tours our country has ever witnessed. In the same year, Gord Downie released his legacy project, Secret Path.

With the help of a team that includes Broken Social Scene’s Kevin Drew, Gord Downie tells the story of Chanie Wenjack and the suppression of Indigenous children and families in the residential school system.

By bringing forward untold stories from a darker part of Canada’s history, Downie has earned three JUNO nominations; Songwriter of the Year, Adult Alternative Album of the Year, and Recording Package of the Year. Proceeds from Secret Path have gone to The Gord Downie Secret Path Fund for Truth and Reconciliation via The National Centre for Truth and Reconciliation (NCTR) at The University of Manitoba.
