The Dean Obeidallah Show: Draw your favorite Islamophobe contest!

Do you know how to draw, even just stick figures? Do you hate bigotry? Then I hope you enter my “Draw your favorite Islamphobe contest” that I announced on my show this past Saturday. You can draw a cartoon or image of any person or group that is actively stoking flames of hate towards Muslims. It can be Pam Geller or an elected official like Republican Oklahoma State Rep. John Bennett who has called for cutting American Muslims out of our country like a “cancer” to media figures (I’m looking at you Fox News) or ISIS, which is truly one of the most anti-Muslim groups out there. You pick, draw it, take a photo of it and send it to me at submissions@thedeansreport.com. The winner will be announced on my show this coming Saturday and receive a tasty falafel (or a gift certificate up to $10 to a restaurant in your area that serves falafels). Plus you will get a DVD of the comedy documentary I co-directed The Muslims Are Coming! that features some great comedians like The Daily Show’s Jon Stewart, Lewis Black, Janeane Garofalo. And you can be on my show to give an acceptance speech. So draw away. Deadline for entries is Friday, May 15 at noon ET.

Obviously this contest is inspired by anti-Muslim activist Pam Geller’s “draw the Prophet Mohammed” contest in Garland, Texas held last week. On Saturday’s show we discussed the issue with Alia Salem from the Dallas Chapter of CAIR and Amani Al-Khatahtbeh of Muslim Girl.net on the best way to counter the haters while still respecting freedom of expression.

Do you really care that Hilary Clinton deleted her emails? Well, apparently many do, as I found out when SiriusXM Insight host Margaret Hoover joined me to talk about the 2016 presidential race. I honestly thought Hillary’s emails were not a big deal but Margaret and numerous callers made it clear I was very wrong. To many, the email scandal is another reason not to trust Hillary.

Al Jazeera America’s Wajahat Ali joined us for our weekly “Ask A Muslim” segment. Listeners called in big numbers to discuss the issue of freedom of expression. Should there ever be a line?

Does saying you’re a “patriot” now mean you are a cheater? Comedian and Massachusetts native Wali Collins joined me to talk DeflateGate and whether the New England Patriots should be stripped of their Super Bowel victory for cheating in the AFC championship game as a report released by the NFL this week confirmed. To be honest, I’m a diehard NY Giants’ fan so it brings me great joy to see the Pats suffer. Will this scandal taint the legacy of Tom Brady?

The Dean Obeidallah  Show airs live every Saturday at 10am to noon ET on SiriusXM Insight (Ch 121) and repeats several times over the weekend. It is also available On Demand. Hope you check it out and better yet give us a call during the show to “Ask a Muslim” a question, discuss issues of the week or even be contestant on our weekly segment “Name That Religion.” And as always, I want to be your Muslim friend – so if you don’t have one follow me on Twitter at @deanofcomedy and I’ll follow you back or ask me questions at facebook.com/deanofradio.

Don't miss a minute with SiriusXM Streaming, available online and via the SiriusXM App. You can also try it free for 14 days.
