The future looks bright for the Yankees as they lead the American League standings by two games as we begin June. Another reason to be hopeful? Nineteen-year-old prospect Gleyber Torres.
Yankees VP of Baseball Operations Tim Naehring joined SXM Fantasy Drive last night to talk about the infielder’s future.
“I did a lot of video work with the offensive approach and whatnot and obviously he was mature beyond his years,” Naehring said. “He slows the game down better than any 19-year-old that I’ve ever seen on both sides of the ball.”
Of course, there are still questions surrounding Torres, like whether or not he’ll be playing short stop or another position in the MLB. Naehring says the Yanks are planning for a few different scenarios.
“He’s a big, young man and as he matures if he becomes bigger and stronger, then maybe there’s a position move,” Naehring said. “We’re preparing him right now at three different positions: second, short, and third. As he develops that will give us more flexibility at the Major League level.”
