Manager, Financial Planning

Reporting to Director, Planning

The Manager, Financial Planning is responsible for analyzing, forecasting, and reporting accurate financial information to enable effective evaluation of business performance and decision-making in the areas of P&L, cash flows, and balance sheet, acting as a liaison between functional areas and the Finance department. To this end, the Manager, Financial Planning has additional responsibilities related to analytics and data mining.

Job Details



  • Preparing Annual Operating Plan/Strategic Plan/ Monthly forecasting, including leading of overall process and timelines based on company performance, market conditions, competitive activities and growth opportunities
  • Provide insightful interpretation of key business drivers underlying the business results, highlight key issues and make appropriate recommendations where required
  • Assist in annual and quarterly forecasting of the company’s overall revenues and understanding the key drivers related to ARPU and subscribers
  • Provide financial support in analysis, recommendation, and implementation of solutions and improvements
  • Ensure continuous process improvement in terms of efficiency, transparency, and overall effectiveness in driving better business decisions
  • Assist in preparing Annual Operating Plan, including leading the overall process and timelines
  • Participate in developing targets for departments related to operating and capital spending
  • Provide departments with guidelines and assumptions to develop budgets
  • Analyze results against budget and prepare commentary on variances
  • Assist in building detailed planning templates and strategic plans
  • Assist in developing reforecasts and strategic plans at corporate level based on actuals and future financial projections
  • Assist in overall monthly flash/forecast to provide results before month-end, allowing for time-sensitive analysis and decision-making


  • Deliver actuals reporting to business units and finance team, including tracking on key metrics in relation to month-end finance activities
  • Analyze variances and prepare flash forecasts for respective departments
  • Monitor month-end accruals and reversals process
  • Prepare reports and recommendations enabling effective business performance evaluation and decision-making in areas of P&L, cash flow, and balance sheet
  • Prepare reports and presentations for monthly and weekly management meetings
  • Prepare financial reporting sections for quarterly board deck meetings


  • Develop, implement, and use tools for managing and analyzing financial performance
  • Create models and metrics to improve upon forecasting of financial performance continuously
  • Develop financial models to evaluate the effectiveness of a business idea and provide recommendations, as well as track results to expectations
  • Be able to analyze and organize large volumes of data into a predictive model to drive effective business performance and decision-making

Knowledge and Skill Requirements

Level of Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in commerce, business administration, or economics
  • Recognized accounting designation (CA, CMA, CGA, or equivalent)
  • Proficiency in analysis and data mining using SQL is an asset

Job Related Experience

  • Minimum 3 years of relevant experience
  • Experience managing a small team

Skills and Background

  • Ability to create complex, multi-year financial models
  • Knowledge of International Financial Reporting Standards
  • Familiarity with subscriber-based business
  • Advanced-level skills in Microsoft Excel, Hyperion Essbase, and Oracle Financials
