SiriusXM’s Met Opera Radio (Ch. 75) kicked off a new broadcast season on Monday, September 21, with a 2011 Metropolitan Opera performance of Philip Glass’ Satyagraha, his unforgettable opera loosely based on the philosophy and activism of Mahatma Gandhi.
Every Monday at 7:30 pm ET this fall, host Mary Jo Heath and commentator William Berger will present other memorable operas from the past, including Tchaikovsky’s Iolanta, with Anna Netrebko in the title role, the Strauss rarity Die Ägyptische Helena, featuring Diana Damrau, and more.
Additionally, Met Opera Radio will air a different encore performance each week of treasures from the Met archives, such as artist compilations, rarities, historic broadcasts, and some operas that haven’t been heard since they were first aired live. These can be heard four times during the week: on Mondays at 9 am, Wednesdays at 3 pm, Fridays at 6 pm, and Sundays at midnight (all times ET).
