SiriusXM honours the life & legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, 50 years later

Fifty years after the assassination of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., SiriusXM honours his life and legacy with special programming beginning this Tuesday in Memphis, Tenn.

Progress host Mark Thompson will visit the Civil Rights Museum to talk with leaders of the movement and reflect on where they were all those years ago. On Wednesday, the anniversary of the assassination, join Thompson for the official ceremony which will culminate at 6:01 pm ET with the bell toll, which will ring 39 times to honour the number of years King lived.

In Washington, D.C., Urban View‘s Joe Madison will broadcast live Wednesday from the iconic Ben’s Chili Bowl — a spot frequented by King and a place that provided sustenance and refuge during the riots following his assassination.

P.O.T.U.S. will commemorate Wednesday by featuring excerpts of King’s historic Mountaintop speech, as well as share remarks from Robert Kennedy and President Lyndon B. Johnson. From there, coverage will focus on MLK’s legacy and feature clips from historical experts, politicians such as Rep. John Lewis and Sen. Fred Harris, and modern-day pundits and journalists.

SiriusXM Progress (Ch. 127) will have live coverage on April 3 and 4 from 6 am through 10 pm ET.

SiriusXM Urban View (Ch. 126) will be live at Ben’s Chili Bowl on April 4 from 6 am through 10 am ET.

SiriusXM P.O.T.U.S. (Ch. 124) will be live April 4 from noon to 2 pm ET.
