Four weeks remain in the CFL regular season and it’s anyone’s guess on what the first round match-ups will be. The games have gotten tighter and the matches have started to mean more. Many questions remain unanswered but here’s what we do know.
The Calgary Stampeders will once again be the toast of the Western conference barring a 4-game losing streak. A win at home this week against the BC Lions on Saturday combined with a Roughriders loss will give them an automatic birth to the Western Final
The Stampeders have made the Western Final in each of the last six seasons; however, they’ve captured only one Grey Cup in those six years. This year’s team is poised to get back to the big dance, but anything less than a championship is considered failure for Coach Dave Dickinson and his staff.
The only other team that can clinch a playoff spot in the West Division this week is the Saskatchewan Roughriders. They can do so with a road win against the Winnipeg Blue Bombers this Saturday combined with a BC Loss or tie to the Stamps.
As for the East Division, the Montreal Alouettes were eliminated from playoff contention and the Toronto Argonauts are assuredly to follow. Thus, for the third straight season a West Division team will crossover to face an East Division opponent.
Both the Ottawa Redblacks and Hamilton Tiger-Cats have clinched home playoff dates and the two teams will compete over the final four weeks to determine who gets the bye to the Eastern Final. Ottawa currently sits at 8-6 while the Ti-Cats are 7-7
