American rock-singer John Mellencamp was invited to the Steve Earle Show in Outlaw Country to discuss his album release, but instead the conversation strayed to the first day they met in the mid 1980s when Earle first hit the scene.

“I remember you at Farm Aid 2. You  were pretty jacked up. Steve came in my bus and I didn’t know this. And he was a kid, and I mean, he did not shut up. Me and the guys were like, man this guy can really lay out some language here,” Mellencamp said.

Earle replied saying, “I played at 10:00 in the morning. In the ’80s I didn’t know what to do at 10:00 AM … I still kinda don’t shut up but it was voice then. It’s just one of those things that I just kind of  learned to write it down and make some of it rhyme. That’s really kind of all I can do.”
