Unfortunately, Canadian clubs had another mediocre week in MLS last week.
On Friday the Montréal Impact travelled to California to face the LA Galaxy. LA’s Romain Alessandrini got the home team on the board first in the 15 minute. Montréal’s efforts and equalizing were severely hampered when midfielder Marco Donadel was red carded and ejected in the 44th minute for violent conduct. The Galaxy scored one more in the 74th minute and the Impact ended up on the wrong end of a 2-0 score at the final whistle. Montreal, sitting in second-last place in the Eastern Conference, are still looking for their first win of the 2017 MLS season
On Saturday, the Vancouver Whitecaps faced Real Salt Lake in Sandy, Utah. For that night, the city could have been renamed “Snowy, Utah,” as it snowed throughout the whole game and the special orange ball made an appearance. Despite their name, the Whitecaps couldn’t deal with the white stuff on the pitch, nor could they handle RSL’s offense, as Vancouver suffered a 3-0 loss. They now sit in second-last place in the Western Conference.
Also on Saturday night, Toronto FC hosted the red-hot expansion club Atlanta United FC. It was an entertaining affair for fans, as it featured goals, disputed calls, and a red card (for Atlanta). But after going up 2-1 just before halftime courtesy of a goal from Justin Morrow, Toronto FC conceded one more 3 minutes after halftime, and the game ended as a 2-2 draw. Toronto FC are in 9th place in the Eastern Conference with 7 points.
