NHL Games of the Week: Saturday, February 24th – Friday, March 2nd

Alex Burrows #14 of the Vancouver Canucks is knocked over goaltender Pekka Rinne #35 of the Nashville Predators by Nashville defender Ryan Suter #20 during the first period of Game One of the Western Conference Semifinal during the 2011 NHL Stanley Cup Finals at Rogers Arena on April 28, 2011 in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada.

Mick Kern from NHL Network Radio here. We’re running down the must-hear NHL games of the week, including Vegas at Los Angeles, and Nashville at Vancouver!

Saturday, February 24th – Boston Bruins at Toronto Maple Leafs
7:00 PM Eastern – Sirius XM 167

Three weeks ago, the Bruins beat the Leafs 4-1 in Boston.  Back in early November, it was Toronto that took both ends of a home-and-home series.  And the way things are going in the Atlantic Division, these two teams will most likely meet up in the first round of the Stanley Cup Playoffs in mid-April.  You can catch a preview of all that this evening.

Sunday, February 25th – Edmonton Oilers at Anaheim Ducks
8:00 PM Eastern – Sirius XM 91

Anaheim got off to a rough start, largely due to injuries, but they have righted the ship.  The Oilers are still searching for a safe port.  The odds are Edmonton will miss the playoff cut this season; they’d have to go on quite a run in order to grab a Western wildcard spot.  The Ducks are in the midst of a battle with the Flames and Kings for third spot in the Pacific Division, and all of those teams aren’t that far behind the San Jose Sharks.

Monday, February 26th – Vegas Golden Knights at Los Angeles Kings
10:30 PM Eastern – Sirius XM 91

The team that the rest of the Pacific Division won’t catch is the Vegas Golden Knights.  The expansion club has pretty much wrapped up that division, and can also take the Western Division crown and the Presidents’ Trophy as top regular season club.  Tonight they face a Kings team that needs every two points in order to squeeze into the post-season.

Tuesday, February 27th – St. Louis Blues at Minnesota Wild
8:00 PM Eastern – Sirius XM 222

Yet again, these two teams are involved in a dogfight for a playoff spot in the tough Central Division.  The two Western wildcard slots are also an option…but wildcard team number two will most likely have to face the upstart Vegas Golden Knights.

Wednesday, February 28th – Calgary Flames at Colorado Avalanche
9:05 PM Eastern – Sirius XM 219

Can the Calgary Flames make the playoffs in the Pacific Division?  Did anybody but the most die-had Avalanche fan really expect Colorado to be in the playoff discussion on the last day of February?  Maybe February 2020, yet there are the Avs, still in the running to play hockey deep into April 2018.  This one should have a playoff atmosphere to it.

Thursday, March 1st – Tampa Bay Lightning at Dallas Stars
8:30 PM Eastern – Sirius XM 221

Think back to early September, and many hockey prognosticators tabbed this matchup to be the 2018 Stanley Cup Final.  That could very well still happen, though Dallas still can’t print playoff tickets just yet in the contentious Western Conference.  Tampa?  Yeah, go ahead and print up those ducats.

Friday, March 2nd – Nashville Predators at Vancouver Canucks
10:00 PM Eastern – Sirius XM 91

A year after getting to the Stanley Cup Final, can the Predators do it again?  If anything the wild, wild West is that much wilder, what with the addition of the surprising Vegas Golden Knights.  Tonight Nashville finds themselves in Vancouver, facing a Canucks team that will probably finish second last in the West for a second straight season.
