Mick Kern from NHL Network Radio here. We’re running down the must-hear NHL games of the week, including Tampa Bay at Chicago and the Kings at Calgary:

Saturday, January 20th – Boston Bruins at Montreal Canadiens
7:00 PM Eastern – Sirius XM 91

These two storied rivals meet up for the third time in eight days, a mini playoff series in the middle of the season.  Not that the Bruins or Canadiens ever need a reason to get up for these games.  Boston is looking good in the Atlantic Division, with a great chance to finish second behind the Lightning, while Montreal are struggling to grab an Eastern Conference wildcard spot.  Boston edged Montreal 4-3 in the shootout last Saturday, and dominated in a 4-1 win in Boston on Wednesday.

Sunday, January 21st – Philadelphia Flyers at Washington Capitals
12:30 PM Eastern – Sirius XM 91

Everyone keeps saying the regular season means nothing, but a team still has to make the playoffs.  Which is what the Washington Capitals are doing in the tough Metropolitan Division; making sure they make the playoffs.  If that happens to get them first place, so be it.  As for the Flyers, is this the year they step forward, and grab a post-season invite?  They’re right there.

Monday, January 22nd – Tampa Bay Lightning at Chicago Blackhawks
8:30 PM Eastern – Sirius XM 221

While the Lightning are one of the top teams in the NHL, if not the top team, what’s going on with the Chicago Blackhawks?  Three years out from their most recent Stanley Cup championship (when they beat Tampa in the Final), the Blackhawks have been inconsistent, which has them in a real tussle for a Western Conference wildcard spot.

Tuesday, January 23rd – Carolina Hurricanes at Pittsburgh Penguins
7:00 PM Eastern – Sirius XM 91

The two-time defending Stanley Cup champion Penguins have played better hockey recently, which means they’re back in the playoff hunt in the tough Metropolitan Division.  Much was expected of the Hurricanes, and halfway through the season, the ‘Canes sport a similar record to Pittsburgh.

Wednesday, January 24th – Los Angeles Kings at Calgary Flames
9:30 PM Eastern – Sirius XM 219

Ever since head coach Glen Gulutzan threw his stick into the stands during a practice, the Flames have been playing up to their potential, which has seen the team vault up the standings in the Pacific Division.  Both the Flames and Kings are hot on the heels of the division leading Vegas Golden Knights, so the two points up for grabs tonight are huge.

Thursday, January 25th – Toronto Maple Leafs at Dallas Stars
8:30 PM Eastern – Sirius XM 207

During the off-season, some pundits predicted these two teams could meet up in the 2018 Stanley Cup Final.  That’s a bit of a stretch with what’s happened over the first half of the current campaign, but both teams will make the playoff cut.
