Mick Kern from NHL Network Radio here. We’re running down the must-hear NHL games of the week, including Toronto at Buffalo, and Detroit at Columbus!
Saturday, March 3rd – St. Louis Blues at Dallas Stars
2:00 PM Eastern – Sirius XM 219
At the NHL Trade Deadline, the Blues made it known they’re not happy with the present state of their team, shipping forward Paul Stastny to the Winnipeg Jets. St. Louis has been in free fall recently, and now find themselves in a real battle for a Western Conference playoff spot. With roughly 20 games remaining in the regular season, the Dallas Stars find themselves pretty much in the same position. This one tonight should be a beauty.
Sunday, March 4th – Vegas Golden Knights at New Jersey Devils
5:00 PM Eastern – Sirius XM 221
Two of the pleasant surprises in the NHL this season meet up in Newark. Everyone knows about the amazing expansion Golden Knights, but what about the Devils? Not many had them tabbed for a playoff spot, but there they are, right in the mix in the Eastern Conference. It’s not completely crazy to suggest this could be a possible Stanley Cup Final preview. A stretch, not not crazy.
Monday, March 5th – Toronto Maple Leafs at Buffalo Sabres
7:30 PM Eastern – Sirius XM 219
Always a good time when the Maple Leafs and their legions of fans roll in Buffalo. The Leafs are heading to the playoffs, and could go deep into the spring. The same cannot be said for the Sabres, who recently unloaded Evander Kane to the San Jose Sharks. Buffalo haven’t been to the post-season since 2011, and are currently in a rebuilding mode.
Tuesday, March 6th – Dallas Stars at Nashville Predators
8:00 PM Eastern – Sirius XM 223
Last June the Predators came up a bit short in the Stanley Cup Final, and are no doubt looking to finish the job this time around. Many have Nashville returning to the Final, but in order to get there, the Preds will have to survive three tough rounds before that. One team they could meet in the spring is the Dallas Stars. Expect a playoff atmosphere tonight in Music City.
Wednesday, March 7th – Pittsburgh Penguins at Philadelphia Flyers
8:00 PM Eastern – Sirius XM 219
The Battle of Pennsylvania always makes for good hockey, particularly these days with both teams near the top of the Metropolitan Division. Philadelphia recently picked up goaltender Petr Mrazek from Detroit, and he’s been solid out of the gate. Can the Penguins win their third straight Stanley Cup? A lot of hockey to be played before that question is answered.
Thursday, March 8th – St. Louis Blues at San Jose Sharks
10:30 PM Eastern – Sirius XM 91
San Jose made a splash during the NHL Trade Deadline, picking up forward Evander Kane from the Buffalo Sabres. He should supplement San Jose’s attack, as Kane has reached the 20 goal mark three straight seasons. The Sharks are currently middle of the pack in offense in the Western Conference.
Friday, March 9th – Detroit Red Wings at Columbus Blue Jackets
7:00 PM Eastern – Sirius XM 91
Three quarters of the way through the season, the Blue Jackets have been a disappointment, after many expected the team from Ohio to be challenging for first in the tough Metropolitan Division. Columbus are in the running for an Eastern Conference playoff spot, but will be fighting down to the wire to make that cut. Not the same with Detroit, who will miss the playoffs again this season.
