Here are some key games for SiriusXM NHL Network Radio fans this week across the league, including Edmonton at Calgary, Boston at Columbus, and Chicago at Montreal.

Saturday, January 11th – Edmonton Oilers at Calgary Flames
10:00 PM Eastern – SiriusXM 91

The latest installment of the Battle of Alberta is an important one, as both Alberta-based teams are fighting for their playoff lives in the topsy-turvy Pacific Division.  They are not only battling each other, but also the Vegas Golden Knights, Arizona Coyotes, and Vancouver Canucks.  You could either finish first in this division or find yourself on the outside looking in come early April.  The two points for the win tonight are huge.

Sunday, January 12th – Nashville Predators at Winnipeg Jets
2:00 PM Eastern – SiriusXM 91

No, the Jets don’t have to put a guy on Predators’ netminder Pekka Rinne, who became the 12th different NHL goaltender to score a goal this past week.  But they do have to make sure they emerge with the 2 points, as Nashville recently changed head coaches, and are looking to move their way up the Western Conference standings.  The Preds are not that far behind the Jets.

Monday, January 13th – New York Islanders at New York Rangers
7:00 PM Eastern – SiriusXM 91

Always a good time when these two rivals hook up, this time on Broadway.  Despite a couple of recent games where the defence was uncharacteristically leaky, the Islanders continue to be one of the teams that set the standard in the NHL for Team D.  They face a Rangers’ squad that is hanging around the wildcard race in the Eastern Conference.

Tuesday, January 14th – Boston Bruins at Columbus Blue Jackets
7:00 PM Eastern – SiriusXM 91

With the re-emergence of the Tampa Bay Lightning, and Toronto Maple Leafs, as contenders in the Atlantic Division, that means the Boston Bruins need to get back to their early season ways.  Meaning winning, and usually with authority.  The Bruins looked to be running away with the Atlantic bracket, but have come back a bit to the pack.  The Blue Jackets are looking to move up in the Eastern Conference, and a recent stretch of good play has them right back in the thick of the wildcard hunt.

Wednesday, January 15th – Chicago Blackhawks at Montreal Canadiens
7:30 PM Eastern – SiriusXM 91

Nothing seems to be going right for Montreal, who have a long list of injured players, coupled with a lengthy list of losses.  Tonight they take on a visiting Blackhawks’ team that most don’t expect to make the playoffs in the Western Conference.  Earlier in the season, this should have been an automatic two points for Les Canadiens.  Not any longer.

Thursday, January 16th – Arizona Coyotes at Vancouver Canucks
10:00 PM Eastern – SiriusXM 91

Everything appeared to be going swimmingly for the Canucks, until their recent Eastern road swing.  They stumbled a bit, and one cannot afford to that in the West.  The Coyotes have been playing good hockey, and are in a battle with the Golden Knights (and Oilers, and Flames…) for the first spot in the Pacific Division.  The Coyotes continue to be one of the better defensive teams in the NHL.

Friday, January 17th – Pittsburgh Penguins at Detroit Red Wings
7:30 PM Eastern – SiriusXM 91

It’s no longer 2008 (or 2009) when these two teams took turns taking the Stanley Cup home.  The banged-up Penguins continue to be a factor in the tough Metropolitan Division, but it’s a different world for the Red Wings.  They are dead last in the league, and outside of playing for pride (and jobs), it’s more about how many balls will be in the NHL Draft Lottery machine come early April.
