NHL Games of the Week

MONTREAL, QC - FEBRUARY 10: Auston Matthews #34 of the Toronto Maple Leafs skates against Jeff Petry #26 of the Montreal Canadiens during the third period at the Bell Centre on February 10, 2021 in Montreal, Canada. The Toronto Maple Leafs defeated the Montreal Canadiens 4-2.

Saturday, May 1st – Calgary Flames at Edmonton Oilers
10 pm Eastern on SiriusXM 91

So far this season, the much-ballyhooed Battle of Alberta hasn’t lived up to its advanced billing, but it only takes one game for that truce to be shattered.  The Oilers are heading to the post-season; the Flames will be hard pressed to do the same.

Sunday, May 2nd – Tampa Bay Lightning at Detroit Red Wings
3 pm Eastern on SiriusXM 91

As the defending Stanley Cup Champions, the Lightning are getting ready for the playoffs later this month, though they are still jockeying for position in the Central Division.  The only question for Detroit this time around is if they will finish higher in the Central Division final standings than the Columbus Blue Jackets.

Monday, May 3rd – Toronto Maple Leafs at Montreal Canadiens
7 pm Eastern on SiriusXM 91

This appears to be one of the first-round playoff matchups in the North Division, and going by the regular season games, it should be a one-sided affair for Toronto.  If this series comes to pass, it’ll be the first time these two storied rivals have met up in the post-season since 1979. Happy Birthday Alexander!!

Tuesday, May 4th – Pittsburgh Penguins at Philadelphia Flyers
7 pm Eastern on SiriusXM 91

The Battle of Pennsylvania usually produces its fair share of sparks, but this time around, only the Penguins are heading to the post-season.  They’ve played at a playoff pace even without the services of All-Star forward Evgeni Malkin. As for the Flyers, it’s been a disappointing campaign.

Wednesday, May 5th – Washington Capitals at New York Rangers
7 pm Eastern on SiriusXM 91

Are the Washington Capitals the best team in the ultra-competitive East Division?  The playoffs will ultimately decide that question, but tonight they go into New York to tangle with a young Rangers’ squad who will probably just come up short in their pursuit of a 2021 playoff berth, but have bigger and better things ahead of them in the seasons to come.

Thursday, May 6th – New York Rangers at Boston Bruins
7 pm Eastern on SiriusXM 91

The team the Rangers have been chasing to the fourth and final East Division playoff invite has mostly been the Bruins, but while the Broadway Blueshirts did their part in winning games, so did the boys from Beantown.

Friday, May 7th – St. Louis Blues at Vegas Golden Knights
10 pm Eastern on SiriusXM 91

Can the Blues find their winning way in time to grab the fourth and final playoff spot in the West Division?  The top three teams (Vegas, Colorado, and Minnesota) sewed up their invites in late April, and now are fighting for first place in the group.  St. Louis are in a dogfight with the Coyotes for that last remaining spot on the playoff bus.
