NHL Games of the Week: Saturday, November 16th to Friday, November 22nd 2019

Here are some key games for SiriusXM NHL Network Radio fans this week across the league, including Calgary at Vegas, L.A. at Arizona, and Ottawa at Montreal.

Saturday, November 16th – Washington Capitals at Boston Bruins
7:00 PM Eastern – SiriusXM 219

Recently the Bruins haven’t been playing their best hockey, including blowing a 4-0 third period lead to the Panthers.  They’ll have to bring their A-game tonight, as they take on a visiting Capitals team that has been one of the best in the game since the season got underway last month.  Is this a possible 2020 Eastern Conference Final preview?

Sunday, November 17th – Calgary Flames at Vegas Golden Knights
7:00 PM Eastern – SiriusXM 219

Both teams can play better, though both teams should be in the playoffs once the dust settles this April.  Still, that post-season ticket is not a given, and the points up for grabs tonight matter when we get to the early spring.

Monday, November 18th – Los Angeles Kings at Arizona Coyotes
9:00 PM Eastern – SiriusXM 219

Having taken down the past two Stanley Cup champions in the past week, the Coyotes are looking for two points this evening against a rebuilding (or are they?) Kings franchise that recently put ageing sniper Ilya Kovalchuk up in the press box.

Tuesday, November 19th – New York Islanders at Pittsburgh Penguins
7:00 PM Eastern – SiriusXM 91

Always a good time when these two Metropolitan Division teams meet up.  The Penguins haven’t had their full team together for very long this season, due to injuries.  Captain Sidney Crosby is expected to miss a number of weeks due to injury. Regardless, they’re still in the playoff hunt in the East.  The Islanders are, once again, one of the top defensive team in the entire NHL, and have their sights set on top spot in the Metro.  They’re also one of the hottest teams right now in the National Hockey League.

Wednesday, November 20th – Ottawa Senators at Montreal Canadiens
7:30 PM Eastern – SiriusXM 91

Two hours apart by highway (90 minutes if you’re really in a hurry), the Sens and Habs usually deliver a good game, regardless of where they are in the standings.  Ottawa is in the middle of a rebuild, and there are some nice pieces already in place for the Senators.  Montreal has injected a number of young players into the mix, in hopes of avoiding last season’s fate when they missed the Eastern Conference playoff cut by the slimmest of margins.

Thursday, November 21st – Toronto Maple Leafs at Arizona Coyotes
9:00 PM Eastern – SiriusXM 167

Anytime the Maple Leafs come to town, it’s an event, especially when homegrown young star Auston Matthews is wearing the blue and white.  Toronto can play better, and will have to in order to avoid a wildcard invite to the post-season. The Coyotes are playing smart, disciplined hockey and it’s not a stretch to imagine them in the playoffs come this April.

Friday, November 22nd – New Jersey Devils at Pittsburgh Penguins
7:00 PM Eastern – SiriusXM 91

What’s up with the New Jersey Devils?  Much was expected of this team before the regular season got underway, and they haven’t delivered yet.  By all indications, former league MVP Taylor Hall won’t be signing a contract extension before the season ends.  Which means he most likely will become an unrestricted free agent on July 1st.  The question then becomes, do the Devils trade Hall before that happens?
