Mick Kern from NHL Network Radio here. We’re running down the must-hear NHL games of the week, including the Ducks at the Leafs and the Rangers visiting the Penguins:
Saturday, December 17th – Philadelphia Flyers at Dallas Stars
2:00 PM Eastern – Sirius XM 91
Nobody is hotter than the Flyers, who have catapulted their way into the race for first place in the tough Metropolitan Division. Life is quite different for the Stars this season, who have had to deal with a plethora of injuries even before the campaign got underway.
Sunday, December 18th – San Jose Sharks at Chicago Blackhawks
7:00 PM Eastern – Sirius XM 91
Two of the powers in the Western Conference meet up tonight in Chicago. The Sharks went all the way to the Stanley Cup Final this past spring, and will be in that conversation again this season. Same thing with the Blackhawks, who have won three Stanley Cups in the past decade, and are looking to add another to their impressive resume. A must see game.
Monday, December 19th – Anaheim Ducks at Toronto Maple Leafs
7:30 PM Eastern – Sirius XM 91
Randy Carlyle is in his second tour-of duty behind the bench for the Ducks, and tonight returns to Toronto, where he coached between stints in Orange County. The Ducks are perennially first place finishers in the Pacific Division, and are once again in contention for that crown. The Maple Leafs weren’t expected to make the Eastern Conference playoff cut this season, but are in most games.
Tuesday, December 20th – New York Rangers at Pittsburgh Penguins
7:00 PM Eastern – Sirius XM 91
24 teams are in action on this Tuesday evening. That includes this juicy matchup between these two Metropolitan Division rivals. The Rangers and Penguins also have waged some memorable playoff battles in the past decade, and tonight promises to be another good game.
And both teams have experienced goaltending controversies recently…who should be the #1 guy?
Wednesday, December 21st – Washington Capitals at Philadelphia Flyers
8:00 PM Eastern – Sirius XM 91
Two games on tap for this evening. The Edmonton Oilers are in Arizona to tangle with the Coyotes, while the early game features the Capitals and Flyers in Philadelphia. The home team is red hot, and face a Caps squad that has played well this season, though many expect All-World forward Alex Ovechkin to heat up soon.
Thursday, December 22nd – St. Louis Blues at Tampa Bay Lightning
7:30 PM Eastern – Sirius XM 223
A busy night, with 10 games to choose from. How about the Blues and Lightning in Tampa? This could be a preview of the 2017 Stanley Cup Final. But for that to happen, the Bolts need to get their game in gear. They have underperformed so far, and in particular need to improve their road record. The Blues would also like to work on their game away from home, where they are almost unbeatable.
Friday, December 23rd – Edmonton Oilers at San Jose Sharks
10:30 PM Eastern – Sirius XM 91
Final night of NHL action before the 3-day Christmas Break. 24 teams hit the ice, including this late game in San Jose. The visitors for this one are the Edmonton Oilers, who got off to a great start to the season, and have experienced ups and downs since then, but have remained in the Western Conference playoff hunt.
