Mick Kern from NHL Network Radio here. We’re running down the must-hear NHL games of the week, including the Bruins at the Blue Jackets and the Kings visiting the Canucks:

Saturday, December 24th to Monday, December 26th

No games as the National Hockey League and its players enjoy the Christmas break.

Tuesday, December 27th – Boston Bruins at Columbus Blue Jackets
7:00 PM Eastern – Sirius XM 221

The NHL returns from its Christmas break with 10 games to choose from this evening.  While the Flyers have been the hottest team in the NHL, the Blue Jackets have also been very successful in the past few weeks.  It appears that the Metropolitan Division will have 5 of their teams in the playoffs this season.  The Bruins reside in the Atlantic Division, and are in a three way fight for first place.

Wednesday, December 28th – Los Angeles Kings at Vancouver Canucks
10:00 PM Eastern – Sirius XM 91

Most hockey observers tabbed the Canucks to be dead last, and while that might not happen, Vancouver will be hard pressed to take a run at the playoffs in the tough Western Conference.  As for the Kings, they’ve been living life without their All-Star netminder Jonathan Quick, who is expected back in the lineup sometime in February at the earliest.

Thursday, December 29th – Detroit Red Wings at Ottawa Senators
7:30 PM Eastern – Sirius XM 91

This appears to be the season where the Detroit Red Wings finally miss the playoff cut.  If that indeed happens…and there’s still a lot of hockey left to be played…then it will be the first time since the early 1990’s, which just goes to show how impressive the Detroit organization has been all these decades.  The Senators missed the post-season this past spring, but look poised to get back there this time around.

Friday, December 30th – Chicago Blackhawks at Carolina Hurricanes
7:30 PM Eastern – Sirius XM 91

Contrary to what the standings may show, the Hurricanes have played better hockey as of late.  Their home record is impressive, and they’re at home tonight against the Blackhawks.  The same Blackhawks who always seem to be in the running for the Stanley Cup.  The Hawks are also better at home than on the road.
