Some key games for SiriusXM NHL Network Radio fans this week across the league, including Pittsburgh at Toronto, San Jose at Winnipeg, and the Hurricane at the Rangers.
Saturday, February 2nd – Pittsburgh Penguins at Toronto Maple Leafs
7:00 PM Eastern – SiriusXM 91
A very busy Saturday in the NHL, including this matchup of two Eastern Conference rivals. Pens’ GM Jim Rutherford made a significant move on Friday, trading players with the Florida Panthers. Nick Bjugstad and Jared McCann are now Penguins. Rutherford has shown he is never afraid to tinker with his lineup, and Pittsburgh are in the hunt for top spot in the Metropolitan Division. As for the Maple Leafs, this is the home debut for defenceman Jake Muzzin, acquired earlier this week from the Los Angeles Kings.
Sunday, February 3rd – Calgary Flames at Carolina Hurricanes
12:30 PM Eastern – SiriusXM 218
Don’t rest on a third period lead against the Flames, as they’ll burn ya! Calgary has scored the most 3rd period goals in the NHL this season, and they boast the second best offense in the league. All that firepower has them in first place in the Pacific Division. The Canes are staying in the playoff hunt in the Eastern Conference, only a handful of points out of the final wildcard spot.
Monday, February 4th – Vancouver Canucks at Philadelphia Flyers
7:00 PM Eastern – SiriusXM 219
Recently the Flyers have been red hot, with young goaltending phenom Carter Hart finally providing the top notch goaltending the franchise has been starving for. While Philly may not make the post-season this time around, there is plenty of promise just around the corner. The same thing can be said for the young Canucks, who have surprised many by still being in the middle of the jam packed playoff hunt in the Western Conference.
Tuesday, February 5th – San Jose Sharks at Winnipeg Jets
8:00 PM Eastern – SiriusXM 217
Two of the top teams in the Western Conference clash this evening in Manitoba. Both the Sharks and Jets can fill the net, and both sport impressive home records. This could be a preview of the Western Conference Final later this spring.
Wednesday, February 6th – Boston Bruins at New York Rangers
8:00 PM Eastern – SiriusXM 219
Two old rivals meet up on Broadway tonight, with only one of these teams destined to play hockey past mid-April this season. That would be the Bruins, who could finish as high as second in the Atlantic Division, or as low as the second wildcard in the East.
Thursday, February 7th – New York Islanders at New Jersey Devils
7:00 PM Eastern – SiriusXM 937
Those amazin’ Islanders continue to impress, leading the tough Metropolitan Division, just ahead of the Penguins and Capitals. Wherever they end up finishing, the other New York team will be a force in the playoffs. The same cannot be said for the Devils, who have disappointed this season by not being closer to an Eastern Conference playoff spot.
Friday, February 8th – Carolina Hurricanes at New York Rangers
8:00 PM Eastern – SiriusXM 91
The Hurricanes and Rangers have the spotlight all to themselves this evening, as they’re the only NHL game on the schedule. The two points up-for-grabs is huge for both teams, if they realistically entertain playoff hopes for this spring.
