Some key games for SiriusXM NHL Network Radio fans this week across the league include the Flames at the Wild, Buffalo at Boston, and St. Louis at Edmonton.
Saturday, December 15th – Calgary Flames at Minnesota Wild
1:30 PM Eastern – SiriusXM 91
If the Wild enter the third period with a sizeable lead, they’d be best to batten down the hatches. The Flames have engineered a number of late comebacks this season, and if they can steady their goaltending situation, are a real contender to represent the Western Conference in the Stanley Cup Final this June.
Sunday, December 16th – Buffalo Sabres at Boston Bruins
5:00 PM Eastern – SiriusXM 219
These two clubs have a rivalry dating back decades, and now that the Sabres are once again a factor in the Eastern Conference, it’s back on. The Bruins have had to contend with a number of injuries, and have pretty much sat in one of the Eastern wildcard slots for months.
Monday, December 17th – New York Islanders at Colorado Avalanche
9:00 PM Eastern – SiriusXM 217
While the Avalanche have become one of the better teams in the league, what about the New York Islanders? They haven’t qualified for the post-season since 2016, and roughly 30 games into this campaign, they’ve kept pace in the Metropolitan Division. The Isles have been slightly better at home than on the road.
Tuesday, December 18th – St. Louis Blues at Edmonton Oilers
9:00 PM Eastern – SiriusXM 167
Two teams that fired their head coach 12 hours apart earlier this season meet up in Alberta on this Tuesday night. While the Blues are still looking for the winning combination, the Oilers have been a revelation ever since Edmonton native Ken Hitchcock took over behind the bench. The Oilers have been one of the hotter teams in the NHL, and find themselves back in the Western Conference playoff race.
Wednesday, December 19th – Pittsburgh Penguins at Washington Capitals
8:00 PM Eastern – SiriusXM 91
One of the greatest goal scorers of all-time against one of the greatest all-around players of all time. The last three Stanley Cup champions. What more do you want? The Pens-Caps rivalry is as good as it gets in the NHL, especially since Washington finally won it all this past spring.
Thursday, December 20th – Winnipeg Jets at San Jose Sharks
10:30 PM Eastern – SiriusXM 219
Entering the 2018-19 season, the Jets were expected to contend for top team in the West, and they have so far lived up to that billing. As for the Sharks, they are near the top of the Pacific Division, keeping pace with the high scoring Calgary Flames.
Friday, December 21st – Chicago Blackhawks at Colorado Avalanche
9:00 PM Eastern – SiriusXM 219
A tale of two teams headed in opposite directions, the 2018-19 season has been a disappointment so far for the Blackhawks. Three Stanley Cups in the past decade are now a distant memory. On the other hand, the Avalanche are now one of the top teams in the tough Western Conference, though they haven’t hoisted the Cup since 2001.
