A Metropolitan Division match-up on this Saturday evening, as the defending Stanley Cup champion Capitals are in Columbus The Caps appeared to have rounded into form recently, and will once again be one of the top teams in the division. The Blue Jackets have been among the top three in the Met since the season began two months ago.
Sunday, December 9th – Dallas Stars at Vegas Golden Knights

Another team apparently rounding into form are the Vegas Golden Knights, who are in only their second season of existence. Many expected the Knights to take a few steps backwards this season, and maybe that has happened to a degree, but Vegas are right in the thick of the playoff race in the Western Conference.
Monday, December 10th – New York Rangers at Tampa Bay Lightning

Are the Lightning the top team in the Eastern Conference? Time will tell, but they can light the lamp with the best of them, and their defensive work is also top notch. The pressure to go deep in this spring’s playoffs will be immense. The Rangers were expected to begin a rebuilt this season, but got off to a better start than expected.
Tuesday, December 11th – Toronto Maple Leafs at Carolina Hurricanes

The powerhouse Maple Leafs roll into Raleigh this evening, facing a Hurricanes team that will have to most likely fight for an Eastern wildcard in order to participate in the post-season. Toronto is one of the top scoring team in the NHL, and have been outstanding so far while playing on the road.
Wednesday, December 12th – Dallas Stars at Anaheim Ducks

Both of these franchises have been playing some impressive hockey as of late, and that puts both squads smack dab in the middle of the tough Western Conference playoff battle. Both teams have been better on home ice so far this campaign.
Thursday, December 13th – Edmonton Oilers at Winnipeg Jets

A throwback to World Hockey Association days, the Oilers and Jets meet up in downtown Winnipeg this evening. The hosts are one of the acknowledged battleship teams in the NHL, and have their eyes set on going deep into the playoffs. The visitors would just like an invite to the spring tournament, and have managed to stay within shouting distance of the Western wildcard.
Friday, December 14th – Boston Bruins at Pittsburgh Penguins

Injuries have derailed the Boston express a bit, and tonight they face a Penguins’ team who have had their challenges so far this season. Most observers expect both teams to be in the Eastern Conference playoff mix by the time all is said and done.
