NHL Network Radio Presents Simmer’s 31 in 31: Doubleheader Day


Because there were no NHL games on American Thanksgiving, I had to attend two games on Saturday, December 1st to keep the 31 games in 31 days concept intact. Here’s how that day went:

4:25 am – Wake-up via phone alarm

4:30 am – Back-up wake-up call

4:42 am – Uber from Alexandria, Virginia to Reagan National Airport.

5:10 am – Dunkin Donuts Express

6:08 am – Wheels up

7:21 am – At gate in Toronto

7:33 am – Clear customs and immigration via NEXUS

7:45 am – UP train departs airport for Toronto. I’m bound for Bloor Street Station, one stop short of downtown Union Station

8:03 am – Walk to subway/bus connection

8:26 am – Arrive at apartment. Empty mailbox, drop off game pucks, swap out sharpies.

8:37 am – In Uber for Bloor Street UP train (great job Tasawar)

8:52 am – Board UP train for airport

9:10 am – Arrive back at Pearson

10:27 am – Wheels up

11:03 am – Land in Ottawa

11:18 am – In rental car

12:16 pm – After ATM stop, changing clothes in my car in the arena parking lot.

1:06 pm – Watch presentation to linesman Derek Nansen for working his 1,000th game

1:11 pm – Puck drop between Sen’s and Sharks

1:21 pm – Ovation for returning former Sen’s captain Erik Karlsson after short video tribute during 1st TV time-out

3:48 pm – Final: Ottawa 6, San Jose 2

3:53 pm – Begin drive to Hab-land

6:13 pm – Check-in, dump bag at hotel in Montreal

6:25 pm – Cab to Bell Centre

7:16 pm – Puck drop between Canadiens and Rangers

8:20 pm – NYR goalie Alexandar Georgiev snaps and smashes his goalie stick on his goal post after giving up the 3rd Habs goal on a 3-on-1.

9:42 pm –  Final: Montreal 5, New York 2

10:15 pm – Begin social endeavors

3 am (ish) – Zonk
