This week, The Verge wants to get your ears on these great new tracks:

OLD MAN CANYON – RUN AWAY

A Grand Façade is the latest album from Vancouver, BC multi-instrumentalist, singer-songwriter Old Man Canyon. On this project, he recorded and handled most of the production from his home studio. The album highlights the general malaise we have towards world issues and the difficulties to define ourselves within it. There’s a playfulness to the soundscapes and the lyrics direct you to take a look behind the curtain of this reality – after all as Old Man Canyon says on ‘Run Away,’ “If it’s truth you want, then run as far as you can.”

KASADOR – HIGH RISE

Kingston, Ontario rockers Kasador turn up the volume on another track from their upcoming album, Brood & Bloom.’’High Rise’ brings into focus the band’s sound, showcasing their songwriting and musicianship. The song is different from their first single, which was more vintage rock. This one is more modern alt-rock leaning, highlighting their versatility. Helping to define the band’s sound on the album are Canadian rock legends Rob Baker and Gord Sinclair of The Tragically Hip. Not only does Rob Baker wear a producing hat on this album, but he also gets to work with his son which is pretty cool – I think… I’ll ask his son next time they’re in town.

ALTAMEDA – WISH UPON THE WEATHER

Edmonton’s Altameda delivers the long range forecast and it looks like clear skies ahead. With their new song from the album, Time Hasn’t Changed You the band admits that there could be rain delays in life but once they clear, jump into those puddles freely – cuz no one is watching. ‘Wish Upon The Weather’ is a blistering song that showcases the band’s love for music and storytelling.

REUBEN AND THE DARK – YOU AND I

You might have heard a few of the band’s songs on some of your favourite TV shows recently, like Grey’s Anatomy, Elementry, and The Handmaid’s Tale.  See Reuben and the Dark soon playing some hometown shows, one being the Calgary Stampede.

CURRENT SWELL – HIGH LIFE

Victoria B.C. band Current Swell enters their second week on the watch list with ‘High Life.’ See them before they head out on their North American tour when they check into the Squamish ConstellationMusic Festivalon July 28th.
