Sarah Burke here from SiriusXM Country, with so much good news to share for some of our favourite country artists! Congratulations are in order for our 2019 Canadian Country Music Association Award (CCMA) nominees!

Paul Brandt & Lindsay Ell are both from Calgary, Alberta and were the perfect musicians to help make the announcement for the award show that will take place September 9th in their hometown! Paul Brandt has five nominations including Entertainer of the Year, Fan’s Choice, Album of the Year and Male Artist of the Year. Lindsay Ell wasn’t far behind with four nods for Female Artist of the Year, Interactive Artist of the Year, Single of the Year & Video of the Year.

James Barker Band & Brett Kissel cleaned up nicely with several nominations too! But, I want to shine a line on some of the ‘Rising Stars’ if I may before we go any further. Congrats to all of the nominees, including Shawn Austin, who we caught up with at Cavendish Beach Music Festival last weekend, see more HERE. And, our friends and 2019 Top of the Country semi-finalists, Sons of Daughters.  They just released their debut EP “Love in a Bar!”

Alli Walker Premiere’s New Video “Raise Your Head” on

Last weekend, we caught up with Prince Edward Island’s Alli Walker at Cavendish Beach Music Festival.  She moved to Toronto to follow her dreams of becoming a country singer/songwriter while leaving behind the nay-sayers. Her new music video for “Raise Your Head” premieres today where we get to watch Walker return to her high school; where she first sang to a crowd:

“Returning to my old High School in PEI to film the video for “Raise Your Head” was really cathartic for me for many reasons…This is where I sang my first note, as the lead female role in my grade 12 musical Footloose. Being given that opportunity and chance as someone with no experience changed the entire trajectory of my life, and for that, I am so grateful. High school was also a tough time for me with friends and bullying, so to be able to go back as a different person with a new perspective was powerful for me. It goes perfectly with the first line of the song ‘Everybody says that I’ve changed, well thank God.’”

A huge advocate for mental health, you’ll see Alli sharing optimism throughout Toronto this summer as she participates in events like the Monday Girl’s Women in Media panel July 15th. Learn more at her official website.

You can hear Alli speak about how much this song means to her in the Cavendish Beach Music Festival recap show which airs again Saturday at 10 am and 10 pm ET on SiriusXM 171.
