2017 Canadian Country Music Week in Saskatoon
Saskatoon is the host city for the 2017 Canadian Country Music Association awards and there’s a weekend full of live entertainment planned for fans leading up to the annual awards show; the biggest night in Canadian Country music! The live broadcast begins Sunday at 8pm Central Time, 7 Eastern on CBC and SiriusXM Channel 171 featuring performances from artists like Gord Bamford, Jim Cuddy, Tim Hicks, Meghan Patrick, The Washboard Union, Dean Brody, Brett Kissel, Jess Moskaluke, Dallas Smith, James Barker Band, and international country stars Blake Shelton & Brett Young.
Shining the light on some local talent and stars from Saskatchewan, here’s our local spotlight for Canadian Country Music Week.
Jess Moskaluke Surprises Saskatoon Students
‘Female Artist of the Year’ & ‘Single of the Year’ nominees Jess Moskaluke was born in Langenburg, approximately four hours southeast of Saskatoon. She helped kicke of Country Music Week with MusiCounts to celebrate the launch of the 2017-2018 Band Aid Program at L’École Canadienne Française. She surprised students with $10,000 worth of new instruments for their music program and a special performance!
The MusiCounts Band Aid Program provides school music programs in need with musical instruments and equipment. The instruments provided through this program (awarded in $5,000 or $10,000 value allotments) impact thousands of young Canadians and support diverse music programs that include everything from concert and jazz bands to rock band programs. To date, the program has distributed nearly $8 million in instruments and equipment to hundreds of school music programs across Canada.
Born & Raised in Shaunavon: The Hunter Brothers
The Hunter Brothers are from Shaunavon, about four hours southwest of Saskatoon and nominated for ‘Interactive Artist of the Year.’ They just released the music video for their song Born & Raised which was filmed on their family farm:
In the video, you’ll notice footage from a charity event in their hometown where they helped raise $60,000 for local charities. Catch the Hunter Brothers at the CCMA Legends Show with Paul Brandt Friday, September 8, 2017 at TCU Place, Sid Buckwold Theatre, 35 22 St E.
A part of the Canadian Country Music Association’s discovery program last year, Tenielle Arts was born in Weyburn, Saskatoon, almost four hours southeast from Saskatoon (an hour and a half from Regina). She was singing by eight, writing by thirteen, and she just moved to Nashville to pursue her lifelong dream. She’s working on new music now, and will preview some with some other fabulous ladies in Canadian Country on Saturday morning. See the event information below, and check out her new song Cold Feet. She says,“It’s like a Nicholas Sparks book in a song. A story song about choosing between your head and your heart. What would you do?”
