When you’re the biggest band in the world, with fans hanging off your every album and groupies waiting for you in every city you arrive in, what do you do next?
If you’re Led Zeppelin, you make it a double. As in, a double album.
40 years ago, on February 24th, 1975, Jimmy Page, Robert Plant, John Paul Jones and John Bonham released their sprawling double album Physical Graffiti. Four sides of vinyl and 15 songs that, for many, sum up what makes the mighty Led Zeppelin…well, mighty.
From the relatively short (‘Custard Pie’, ‘Houses of the Holy’) to the incredibly epic (‘In My Time Of Dying’ ‘Kashmir’), Physical Graffiti has something for every Zeppelin fan. This past week, a remastered, deluxe version of the album was released, supervised by Jimmy Page himself. The new set features the original album across two cds, along with a third disc of previously unreleased material. To celebrate, Classic Vinyl will be spinning every song on the album plus the stories behind the music, featuring comments from Jimmy Page.
