Esteemed producer/composer and bassist Marcus Miller joins Real Jazz’ Grammy winning line-up of hosts (Wynton Marsalis & Dee Dee Bridgewater are the others) with his new two-hour program Miller Time. Like the all-around musician he is, Miller serves up a 360 degree musical sample of jazz from the roots to the future, bebop to hip-hop, blues to fusion, old-time swing to new jack swing and anything in between. This week he features jazz with a touch of soul.

Dermot Hussey is the recipient of a Musgrave Medal, the prestigious Jamaican award for services to media and music, and an inductee of the Air Jamaica Jazz and Blues Hall of Fame. As co-author of Bob Marley: Reggae King of the World, and producer of the Marley interview on Marley’s album Talkin’ Blues, Hussey brings a refreshing island breeze to Real Jazz.
Joey DeFrancesco is the undisputed king of the Hammond B-3 organ in jazz today. Since being discovered by Miles Davis as a teenager, Joey has released more than 30 albums, including his Grammy-nominated tribute to Michael Jackson’s “Never Can Say Goodbye.” Raised in Philadelphia where seemingly every important jazz organ player hails from, DeFrancesco knows the history of his instrument and keeps up with the youngsters who look up to him. Native New Yorker Rhonda Hamilton is a legend in jazz broadcasting. She is a co-founder of the immensely popular Newark radio station WBGO, where she’s been on-air for almost four decades. Since 1980, she has been a regular voice on NPR, featured on many syndicated shows, including Jazz Set and Toast the Nation. In addition, she’s been honored by the Jazz Journalists Association, and as a recipient of the NYC “Ladies in Jazz Award.”
Legendary producer/composer/bassist Marcus Miller is a self-proclaimed 360 degrees musician. Having written major hits for Luther Vandross, David Sanborn, and Miles Davis, he can back up his claim. He is a two-time Grammy winner, one for jazz and the other for R&B. He displays his broadcasting chops and his wide range of musical tastes every week on Miller Time with Marcus Miller
Mark Ruffin is a two-time Emmy-winning broadcaster and journalist who played jazz on the radio in Chicago for more than 25 years before joining the Real Jazz airwaves. Ruffin has written 600+ articles for Down Beat, Jazziz, Playboy, Chicago Magazine, and others; and he welcomes your requests and feedback.
For more than 30 years, Eulis Cathey has made his living in jazz as a radio personality, producer, and record company executive at Verve, Island, Atlantic, and other labels. His experience with artists such as Joe Henderson, Regina Carter, and Gary Bartz gives him great insight and passion for the genre.
Les Davis’s “eureka!” moment came during a Frank Sinatra concert at NYC’s Paramount Theater. For many decades since, he’s been a jazz broadcaster and host of shows at The Village Gate, The Blue Note, and other legendary haunts. “All those wonderful emails from the listeners really make my day,” says Davis.
