The Toronto Blue Jays stand a real chance of getting back to the post-season. Mick Kern looks at their big games this week.
In a statement released Wednesday, December 29, the International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF) announced, “Following a recommendation by the tournament COVID-19 Medical Group and the IIHF Medical Committee, the IIHF Council has decided that, due to the ongoing spread of COVID-19 and the Omicron variant, the 2022 IIHF World Junior Championship will be cancelled to ensure the health and safety of all participants.”
The decision to cancel the tournament came after a third game was forfeited in two days, just hours before Canada was scheduled to play its third preliminary-round game against Germany.
This marks the first time the World Juniors has not been completed after 44 consecutive years. The 2023 IIHF World Junior Championship is scheduled to begin on Tuesday, December 26, 2023 in Siberia, Russia.
Play by play and commentary was slated to be broadcast on SiriusXM NHL Network Radio (Ch. 91) and Canada Talks SiriusXM (CH. 167).
