As the post-season nears, Dallas visit Philly and more NHL Games of the Week
Saturday, March 28th – 7:00 pm Eastern – SiriusXM 91
Toronto Maple Leafs at St. Louis Blues
Two teams not heading to the post-season, still a lot of play for. Jobs, reputation, lottery odds, and the competitive zeal all hockey players have. Okay, it’s tough to even spell zeal this time of the year if you’re not playing past April 16th. Both of these clubs were expected to make the playoff cut this year, so it’s been a disappointing campaign, to say the least. The Maple Leafs have played better hockey recently, as have the Blues.
Sunday, March 29th – 7:00 pm Eastern – SiriusXM 91
Dallas Stars at Philadelphia Flyers
If it wasn’t for the high-flying Colorado Avalanche, we’d be talking more about the high-flying Dallas Stars. We still should be talking about them, as the team from Big D is a legitimate Stanley Cup contender and is aiming to finally get by the Western Conference Final. They visit a young Flyers’ team that has remained close in the Eastern Conference wildcard race, though they weren’t expected to snag a spot.
Monday, March 30th – 7:00 pm Eastern – SiriusXM 91
Pittsburgh Penguins at New York Islanders
These two old rivals are battling tooth-and-nail for second spot in the Metropolitan Division, and to avoid slipping out of the Eastern playoff race altogether. Because the Columbus Blue Jackets have crashed this party, and may push one of these teams down into a wildcard position. You want a Play-In Game? Here you go.
Tuesday, March 31st – 9:00 pm Eastern – SiriusXM 91
Seattle Kraken at Edmonton Oilers
Both these teams could finish first in the Pacific Division (now known as the Pillow Fight Division), or they could be wildcard teams, or they could be on the outside looking in once the NHL regular season comes to a close mid-April. You want another Play-In Game? Here you go.
Wednesday, April 1st – 10:00 pm Eastern – SiriusXM 91
Anaheim Ducks at San Jose Sharks
Speaking of first place in the mild Pacific, the young Ducks have designs on that crown, and tonight visit a young Sharks squad that has designs on just making the playoffs. Both teams look to be Pacific Division powerhouses for years to come, so anything this season is a bonus. Anaheim are further along in their development, and should make the post-season. San Jose may fall just short of that mark, but even if that occurs, it’s been a promising season for the boys in teal.
Thursday, April 2nd – 7:00 pm Eastern – SiriusXM 91
Boston Bruins at Florida Panthers
It’s been a season to forget for the defending Stanley Cup Champions. Key injuries during training camp, less-than-stellar play, and little doubt the physical/mental price paid during three straight trips to the Stanley Cup Final have finally come home to roost. Add it all up, and there will be a new Stanley Cup Champion in the league this June. But what about the Cats? Is this a one-season thing? Surely they still possess the core talent to be a factor next season in the wide-open Eastern Conference? Maybe. But what about the Bruins? After missing the playoffs last season by 15 points, the B’s are back. They’ll most likely finish as high as third in the tough Atlantic Division, or grab a wildcard spot. They’re not home-and-cooled yet; a bad finish to the season would also finish their season. Funny how that works.
Friday, April 3rd – 7:00 pm Eastern – SiriusXM 91
Philadelphia Flyers at New York Islanders
While the Flyers have been a pleasant surprise this season, the playoffs may be a bit of a stretch this time around. Tonight, Philly visits an Islanders’ team that has one of the best goaltenders in the NHL, and without a shadow of a doubt, the 2025-26 rookie-of-the-year in the sensational defenceman Matthew Schaefer. He doesn’t turn 19 until September 5th.
