Recorded and released in the wake of The Beatles’ April 1970 dissolution, George Harrison’s landmark solo album, All Things Must Pass, is a fully realized statement by a bold and audacious artist. The album has now been completely remixed from the original tapes for a stunning suite of 50th-anniversary releases that sound brighter, fuller, and better than ever before. Throughout the week, The Beatles Channel (Ch. 18) will feature music from the brand-new All Things Must Pass 50th Anniversary Edition (releasing August 6 via Capitol/UMe) – including many previously unreleased demo recordings, session outtakes, and studio jams – along with special programming dedicated to Harrison’s masterpiece.
In addition, The Beatles Channel is also celebrating the 50th anniversary of the Concert For Bangladesh – when Ravi Shankar asked his friend George Harrison to help his country, which was suffering from the effects of floods, famine, and civil war. The Concert for Bangladesh, held at Madison Square Garden in New York on August 1, 1971, was the first major music benefit concert for a humanitarian cause, raising much needed funding and awareness for UNICEF in Bangladesh. The remarkable success of that historic event led the Harrison family to create the George Harrison Fund for UNICEF as a way to continue that legacy of giving.
