Graham Nash talks David Crosby, Little Richard & Jimi Hendrix with Paul Shaffer
It has been more than two years since the falling out between Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young bandmates Graham Nash and David Crosby. The 45-year friendship ended in a public feud — resulting in the group’s disbandment (they would have been together for 50 years in 2019).
Former David Letterman/World’s Most Dangerous Band leader Paul Shaffer sat down with Graham on SiriusXM’s Deep Tracks (Ch. 27) at our NYC studios to discuss the status of his relationship between Crosby, his solo career and CSN(Y).
Shaffer asked Nash about his comments on Crosby “ripping the soul out of Crosby, Stills and Nash.”
Nash responded, saying, “You know, you say things in anger, and you try and take them back, and you can’t sometimes, you know, ’cause words are very powerful.”
Nash continued to reminisce about both the band and his failed friendship, recounting how he first met Crosby through The Hollies’ singer Cass Elliot (Mama Cass). “I became friends with David ever since. David is an amazing man,” Nash said.
The Rock & Roll Hall of Famer went even further down memory lane to a 1965 Soupy Sales show, for which the band performed. During the show, he saw a fight between Little Richard and Jimi Hendrix, where he caught Little Richard saying, “Don’t you ever play a guitar with your teeth again!” The fight was so hilarious to Nash, he still remembers it to this day:
