Australian Open

As the tennis world converges on Melbourne for the 2024 Australian Open, all eyes are on the legendary Novak Djokovic, who aims to extend his reign at Rod Laver Arena. Our live coverage of the Australian Open begins Saturday, January 13, at 6:45 pm ET.

Ten-time champion Djokovic boasts an extraordinary 28-match winning streak at the venue, making him the undisputed favourite in the men’s field. With an 89-8 record in 18 appearances, he seeks an Open Era record 25th major trophy. Djokovic dominated in 2023, winning three of the four majors, and now sets his sights on achieving a remarkable feat: clinching all four Grand Slam titles in a single year.

Djokovic faces a formidable challenge from the emerging stars of the next generation, including the talented Jannik Sinner and Wimbledon champion Carlos Alcaraz. The men’s draw also features top contenders like Daniil Medvedev, Olympic champion Alexander Zverev, and last year’s Australian Open runner-up Stefanos Tsitsipas. With a host of rising stars and threats, including Alex De Minaur and Grigor Dimitrov, the 2024 Australian Open promises intense competition.

In the women’s event, world No.1 Iga Swiatek leads the charge, having displayed remarkable form since her fourth-round exit at the US Open. The Polish sensation, with titles in Beijing and the WTA Finals, will contend with fierce competitors, including defending champion Aryna Sabalenka, two-time AO champ Victoria Azarenka, and US Open winner Coco Gauff. The top four seeds — Swiatek, Sabalenka, Elena Rybakina, and Gauff — set the stage for an electrifying showdown.

The women’s draw also sees the return of four-time major champion Naomi Osaka. Wimbledon champ Marketa Vondrousova and runner-up Ons Jabeur, along with the rising Chinese star Zheng Qinwen, further contribute to the depth of talent in the women’s field.
