Matthew McConaughey joined SiriusXM host Julia Cunningham and a live audience during an exclusive Front Row in SiriusXM’s Nashville studios to talk about his new movie, The Rivals of Amziah King, and reflect on memorable moments from his career.
Looking back at his Best Actor Oscar campaign for Dallas Buyers Club, Matthew recalled competing against bigger studio movies while True Detective was simultaneously becoming a phenomenon on HBO.
“That’s a cutthroat son of a gun. I mean, we’re the small movie too. We don’t have as much money,” he said. Having audiences see him every Sunday as Rust Cohle while he campaigned for Dallas Buyers Club was “one of the coups for me.”
Matthew also opened up about balancing acting with family life. Before having children, his wife, Camila Alves, established a rule: “When you go, we go.”
“We travel as a tribe, as a family together,” Matthew said.
The Oscar winner also shared why Mud remains one of his most cherished films, recalling dreams about his late father watching it with him.
“We never got to watch it together, but yeah, Mud. Love that movie,” he said.
