Mick Kern of NHL Network Radio runs down some of this week's must-hear NHL games, including a face-off between Montreal and Toronto.
Saturday, November 7th – 7:00 pm Eastern – SiriusXM 91
Montreal Canadiens at Toronto Maple Leafs
After making NHL history earlier this week by blowing a 4-0 lead (with just over 2 minutes left in the third period) to the Winnipeg Jets en route to a 5-4 OT loss, how do Les Canadiens learn from that? The young team has demonstrated an alarming tendency to allow leads to evaporate, and tonight they take on a Toronto team that knows how to fill the net. The Maple Leafs also would like to tighten up their team defence, and the return of stalwart rearguard Chris Tanev will be a big boost in that department.
Sunday, November 8th – 7:00 pm Eastern – SiriusXM 91
Tampa Bay Lightning at Winnipeg Jets
Man, the Jets have cooled their Jets after an impressive start. Maybe Connor Hellebuyck was on to something. Yeah, it’s still relatively early, yet it also isn’t. We’re almost halfway through November, often the make-or-break post-season indicator for teams. Winnipeg was staring down a 10-game winless streak before picking themselves up off the mat in Montreal, and scoring 4 goals with just over two minutes remaining in the third period. Winnipeg won that game in OT, and the question now is: how do they build on that momentum? The Jets fell 6-4 in Tampa back on October 29th.
Monday, November 9th – 8:00 pm Eastern – SiriusXM 91
New York Rangers at Edmonton Oilers
Goaltending issues plague both teams. The Rangers started off on a hot streak, then star netminder Igor Shesterkin was lost for the season thanks to a freakish injury in the crease. Newly acquired Devon Levi was providing some solid netminding for the Oilers, before he too was forced to the sidelines due to injuries, albeit not for the remainder of the season. Beleaguered goalie Tristan Jarry came in and proceeded to be selected as one of the NHL Players of the Week following a couple of back-to-back shutouts.
Tuesday, November 10th – 10:00 pm Eastern – SiriusXM 91
Nashville Predators at Los Angeles Kings
The Predators recently picked up forward Shane Wright in a trade with the Seattle Kraken. Taken fourth overall in the 2022 NHL Entry Draft, can the 22-year-old Wright find his game with the Preds? Nashville took down the visiting powerhouse Carolina Hurricanes 4-1 this past Tuesday. The Kings? Off to an unimpressive start in the Pacific Division, where most likely only three teams will qualify for the Stanley Cup Playoffs in mid-April.
Wednesday, November 11th – 10:00 pm Eastern – SiriusXM 91
Pittsburgh Penguins at San Jose Sharks
Much was made of the potential of the young and exciting Sharks this season, and while the 2026-27 campaign is still relatively young, at some point they have to start racking up wins…and preferably in regulation time. They welcome in a Penguins team that surprised many last season by making the playoffs, but are under .500 so far this time around.
Thursday, November 12th – 7:00 pm Eastern – SiriusXM 91
Colorado Avalanche at Ottawa Senators
Can the Avalanche play better? Yes, but no panic. Colorado is still pretty much a lock for a playoff spot in the tough Central Division. Can the Senators play better? Probably, especially when they get goaltender Linus Ullmark back. But a recent 2-1 win in Buffalo showed that netminder Samuel Ersson can do the job, after a so-so start. He made 24 saves in the regulation-time win over the Sabres.
Friday, November 13th – 10:00 pm Eastern – SiriusXM 91
Nashville Predators at Vegas Golden Knights
Friday the 13th brings with it two games, including this one from Sin City. The Golden Knights are once again off to a good start in the Pacific Division, and it’s them and the Oilers jousting for the top spot in that Division. They take on a Nashville team that recently put down the defending Stanley Cup Champion Carolina Hurricanes, so don’t assume the two points are automatically in the bank for the Knights.
