Grateful Dead Channel (Ch. 23) celebrates the life and legacy of Jerry Garcia during “The Days Between,” August 1–9, marking the time between Jerry’s birth and his passing.
Natalie Merchant is one of the most well-regarded singers to come out of the late 1980s, beginning with 10,000 Maniacs and then establishing her own solo career.
Natalie recently joined Lori Majewski for an episode of Fierce: Women in Music, where they looked back on her ’80s alternative sisterhood with Björk, her frustration with cell phone use at concerts, and her stunning new album, Keep Your Courage.

You can listen to Fierce: Women in Music with Natalie Merchant right now on the SiriusXM app.
Nonesuch Records released Natalie Merchant’s Keep Your Courage, her tenth solo studio album and first of new material since 2014’s self-titled record, on April 14, 2023. An eclectic album, produced by Merchant, it features two duets sung with vocalist Abena Koomson-Davis (Resistance Revival Chorus), contributions from the Celtic folk group Lúnasa and Syrian virtuoso clarinetist Kinan Azmeh, and horn arrangements by jazz trombonist Steve Davis. There are lush orchestrations throughout by seven composers, including Gabriel Kahane, Stephen Barber, Colin Jacobson, and Megan Gould. Keep Your Courage comprises nine original songs by Merchant as well as an interpretation of “Hunting the Wren” by Ian Lynch of the Irish band Lankum. The vinyl LP edition of Keep Your Courage includes four bonus tracks from earlier albums, previously unreleased on vinyl. Keep Your Courage is available to order here.
