The legendary singer, songwriter, actress, and philanthropist passed away Tuesday, August 25, at the age of 80.
Throughout her remarkable seven-decade career, Parton became one of the most beloved and influential artists in music history, writing and singing enduring classics including “Jolene,” “9 to 5,” and “I Will Always Love You.” She was inducted into both the Country Music Hall of Fame and Rock & Roll Hall of Fame and won 11 Grammy Awards as well as the Recording Academy’s Lifetime Achievement Award.

Born in Tennessee in 1946, Parton rose from humble beginnings to become a defining voice in country music and a global entertainment icon.
Beyond her own recordings, Parton’s songwriting left an indelible mark on popular music. Her composition “I Will Always Love You” became a No. 1 country hit for Parton before Whitney Houston’s rendition became a worldwide phenomenon. Parton’s career also extended to movies including 9 to 5, Steel Magnolias, and more.
Parton’s impact reached far beyond entertainment. Her Imagination Library, launched in 1995, has provided books to children worldwide as part of her decades-long commitment to literacy and philanthropy.
