Jim Cuddy Announces New Album Countrywide Soul

Back in April, I shared some Jim Cuddy songs from an exclusive Record Store Day release. Now, Cuddy has announced his new album Countrywide Soul will come out next weekend on May 31st. On this album, it was very important for Cuddy to let every member of his band shine, while capturing the energy we know and love from their live shows. Countrywide Soul was recorded live on the top floor of Jim’s barn and features re-worked recordings of songs he released both with both Blue Rodeo and his solo career.

This weekend, I’ll play you the first official single, titled “Back Here Again,” one of two new songs on this album. Here’s the video directed by Stephen Hughes, which brings us into the homes of his band members.

Lukas Nelson & Promise of the Real Say Turn Off the News (Build a Garden)

Lukas Nelson & his father, Willie Nelson, will both release new records next month. You’d be familiar with Lukas Nelson’s band, Promise of the Real, who have been playing with Neil Young for years. Together, they’ll release Turn Off the News (Build a Garden) on June 14th featuring some interesting collaborations that include Sheryl Crow, Margo Price, Kesha, Neil Young and Willie Nelson himself. Speaking with Rolling Stone, Lukas says, “We listen to so many artists — the Byrds, Tom Petty, Al Green, Neil Young, Little Feat, J.J. Cale — and this album carries forth something they all represented, the idea of turning off the news and doing something constructive. It’s a statement about how you can live your life with your heart leading the way.” This weekend, I’ll play you the first single from the album titled “Bad Case.”

Ewan Currie Shares Songs & Stories from Out of My Mind Live @ SiriusXM

If the name and voice of Ewan Currie sound familiar; chances are you’ve heard music from his band The Sheepdogs. After a trip to San Francisco a few years back and a recording session with his dream producer, Currie ended up with a new album that only made sense to release under his own name, beginning something new.  He’ll talk about what led to the songs on his latest album Out of My Mind while performing some of the songs live off the floor with us in Toronto this Saturday at 10 ET. I’ll feature one of his live takes & part of the interview on Sunday Service this weekend, too.
