The 2023 NHL Global Series Sweden begins, and more NHL Games of the Week

NHL

It’s a big week in the NHL as the first 2023 NHL Global Series Sweden begins. You can hear those games and more on SiriusXM NHL Network Radio.

Saturday, November 11th – 7 pm Eastern – SiriusXM 91
Vancouver Canucks at Toronto Maple Leafs

The pleasant surprise in the early part of the 2023-24 NHL regular season has to be the Vancouver Canucks. They are keeping pace with the red-hot Vegas Golden Knights in the contentious Pacific Division. Vancouver is getting All-World performances from Thatcher Demko in net, Elias Pettersson at the forward position, and Quinn Hughes on the blue line…not to mention Brock Boeser and J.T. Miller, and an impressive supporting cast. Can they maintain this heady pace? Tonight, on Remembrance Day/Veterans Day, they visit a Maple Leafs team that can score goals with the best of them but are experiencing problems keeping the puck out of their own net.

Sunday, November 12th – 1 pm Eastern – SiriusXM 91
Chicago Blackhawks at Florida Panthers

After making it all the way to the Stanley Cup Final this past June, the Panthers were expected to start slowly out of the gate due to injuries and fatigue. One month into the regular season, Florida are in the mix for a playoff spot in the Eastern Conference.  One month into the season, the rebuilding Blackhawks aren’t that far off the post-season pace in the Western Conference, and much-hyped rookie forward Connor Bedard has been lighting the lamp.

Monday, November 13th – 10 pm Eastern – SiriusXM 91
Colorado Avalanche at Seattle Kraken

The Avalanche won 7 of their first 10 games and looked good in those wins. And looked bad in those 3 losses. So, who exactly are the Colorado Avalanche? Still a very good team is the answer. Tonight, they visit a Kraken squad who have been fighting to stay at .500.

Tuesday, November 14th – 8 pm Eastern – SiriusXM 167
New Jersey Devils at Winnipeg Jets

Even without superstar forward Jack Hughes, the Devils have been putting up the wins. This evening, they visit a Jets team that has been playing decent hockey but are looking for more consistency in their game.  Hey, who isn’t?

Wednesday, November 15th – 7:30 pm – SiriusXM 91
Philadelphia Flyers at Carolina Hurricanes

Not the greatest of starts to the season for the Hurricanes, who were picked by many hockey prognosticators to finish on top of the tough Metropolitan Division. It’s a long season, and the Canes have played better recently. They welcome in a rebuilding Flyers’ team that has proven difficult to play against on any given Wednesday evening.

Thursday, November 16th – 2 pm Eastern – SiriusXM 91
Detroit Red Wings vs. Ottawa Senators (Stockholm, Sweden)

The first game in the 2023 NHL Global Series Sweden, presented by Fastenal, features two Atlantic Division teams that many expected to challenge for playoff berths this season. So far, so good for the Red Wings, who have been sitting in the Top Three in the Atlantic since the drop of the puck back in October.  Not so good for the Senators, who have had to contend with a major player suspension, the dismissal/ resignation of their GM, and players complaining about Sens fans booing. Nothing like a trip overseas to put all that behind you.

Friday, November 17th – 2 pm Eastern – SiriusXM 91
Toronto Maple Leafs at Detroit Red Wings (Stockholm, Sweden)

The second game in the 2023 NHL Global Series Sweden, presented by Fastenal, features two Original Six rivals who are now jockeying for playoff position in the Atlantic Division. The Maple Leafs have been much more porous so far this season when it comes to preventing goals but have been able to often outscore those defensive shortcomings. Centre Auston Matthews is off to an absolutely blistering start to the season, with 13 goals in his first 13 games.
