The Blue Jackets take on the Islanders and more NHL Games of the Week
Saturday, November 1st – 7:00 pm Eastern – SiriusXM 91
Ottawa Senators at Montreal Canadiens
The Senators beat the Canadiens in their first-ever NHL regular-season game back in the autumn of 1992, and the rivalry has only grown since then. Separated by a couple of hours of asphalt, both teams made the playoffs last season, and both are looking to move up into the top three in the crowded Atlantic Division. Sens’ Shane Pinto and the Habs’ Cole Caufield are both off to hot starts in the light-the-lamp department.

Columbus Blue Jackets at New York Islanders
Rookie of the Year already? Remember last season, when there were at least five leading candidates for the Calder Memorial Trophy as top NHL freshmen. But it’s going to take a rather Herculean effort by another rookie to top what 18-year-old defenceman Matthew Schaefer has already accomplished. Are his Islanders a playoff team? Well, he certainly helps make their case, but it’s not really about this season (though the Islanders looked good in a recent win over Detroit). It’s about developing a talented base that can lift the perennial middle-dwellers into the top echelon of teams in the Eastern Conference. Tonight, New York takes on a Columbus squad that just missed the playoff cut this past spring, and despite a so-so start, is expected to be in the thick of that mix again this upcoming spring.
Monday, November 3rd – 10:00 pm Eastern – SiriusXM 91
Chicago Blackhawks at Seattle Kraken
Connor Bedard recently recorded his first NHL hat-trick, and his young team has had an impressive start to the season. The Kraken have also looked good out of the gate, but ten games do not make a season. Already a big two points up for grabs in early November.
Tuesday, November 4th – 7:00 pm Eastern – SiriusXM 91
Carolina Hurricanes at New York Rangers
Two years ago, this might have been a preview of the Eastern Conference Final. That changed in a big way when the Rangers stumbled and fell out of the playoff race last season. Their home-ice woes are well-documented, including a recent loss to the lowly San Jose Sharks. As for the Hurricanes, they continue to post really good regular seasons, then just fall short of getting to the Stanley Cup Final. And it gets more difficult with each passing year, as the Conference seems to tighten further as more teams improve.
Wednesday, November 5th – 7:00 pm Eastern – SiriusXM 91
Utah Mammoth at Toronto Maple Leafs
The Mammoth take their new name to Toronto to face a Maple Leafs team that has recently seen internal bickering spill out into the public. Yes, the Leafs miss Mitch Marner, but that’s old news now. There’s still a lot of scoring talent remaining on this roster, and they’ve received top-notch goaltending from Anthony Stolarz. Utah have made it clear that their sights are set on a Western Conference playoff spot as early as this April. They recently signed forward Logan Cooley to an eight-year contract extension.
Thursday, November 6th – 7:30 pm Eastern – SiriusXM 91
Washington Capitals at Pittsburgh Penguins
Since the autumn of 2005, the matchup of the Capitals versus the Penguins, and Alexander Ovechkin versus Sidney Crosby, has been written in hockey lore. Enjoy that rivalry while you can, as both future Hall-of-Famers ain’t young anymore. But they can still play at a high level. And the Penguins have surprised pretty much everybody by being competitive out of the gate. Future HHOF’er Evgeni Malkin has enjoyed a torrid start, putting up 16 points in his first 11 games.
Friday, November 7th – 7:00 pm Eastern – SiriusXM 91
New York Rangers at Detroit Red Wings
It’s been a rather impressive start to the season for the Red Wings, who are looking to book a digital ticket to the playoffs for the first time in a decade, going 7-and-3 in their first ten games. They welcome in a Rangers team that changed their head coach and swapped out some pieces this season in an effort to get back to the postseason. Their difficulties scoring goals at home in October are well known, but New York has had better luck lighting the lamp away from MSG.
