This week, The Verge wants to get your ears on these great new tracks:

Dead Soft – “Step Out”

Indie-punk band Dead Soft just released their debut album Big Blue after tons of touring with bands like Broken Social Scene and The Breeders and getting the album just right. The three-piece from Vancouver, British Columbia, named the record after Big Blue on Gabriola Island where they were free of distraction and eventually moved permanently. This song is about becoming a better person by removing yourself from an environment that informs who you are.

Dave Monks – “Don’t Go Falling To Pieces”

You’ll recognize his name and his voice. Tokyo Police Club’s Dave Monks just released his debut solo album On a Wave. You’ll hear his inspirations through the years from Radiohead to the Strokes, but you may also pick up on some heartbreak, self-doubt and reflection surrounding the last days of his beloved band Tokyo Police Club. He’s on tour with Said the Whale right now.

Jon Bryant – “Headphones”

He may be Vancouver-based but Alt-singer/songwriter Jon Bryant wrote the songs on his new album Cult Classic everywhere from Nova Scotia to Seattle and LA to Australia. He just announced his new single and there’s a stellar video to go along with it. This song details an honest personal experience about meeting someone that makes your head spin in all the right ways.

Scenic Route to Alaska – “Give A Little”

Edmonton-based indie-pop trio Scenic Route to Alaska are back with their new single “Give a Little”, which is our first taste of their new music before they get in the studio to work on their fifth full-length album coming next year. The band says:

“Give a Little” is about the tension in society today. Those moments where you turn on the news and it’s never about anything good. It’s about taking a deeper look, to question what we’re all doing to bring a little more light into the day to day…practice patience and show a little more kindness to strangers, friends and neighbours.

We Are The City – “Song In My Head”

Fresh off the road with Tokyo Police Club, Vancouver-based We Are The City has shared a new track called Song In My Head. Fun fact: Tyler Bancroft who we know and love from Said the Whale is managing the band. Let us know what you think!
