U2 announces new Las Vegas residency at MSG Sphere during Super Bowl commercial

Las Vegas Residency U2:UV Achtung Baby Live at the Sphere U2

In a Super Bowl commercial last night, Irish rock band U2 announced that their return to live music will coincide with the highly anticipated opening of the MSG Sphere at The Venetian in Las Vegas.

After a four-year absence, U2 is taking the stage this fall for U2:UV Achtung Baby Live at the Sphere as the first act to perform at the new 17,500-seat venue. Although exact dates for the residency haven’t been announced, fans can register now to be the first to find out about show dates and ticket information through Live Nation’s Verified Fan.

Joining Bono, the Edge, and Adam Clayton at MSG Sphere, Bram van den Berg will sit in for drummer and founding member Larry Mullen Jr. while he undergoes surgery this year.

In a press release, U2 addressed their fans as “the fifth member of the band” and expressed how much they didn’t want to let them down. “Bottom line, U2 hasn’t played live since December 2019 and we need to get back on stage and see the faces of our fans again,” the statement continued. “And what a unique stage they’re building for us out there in the desert…. We’re the right band, Achtung Baby the right album, and the Sphere the right venue to take the live experience of music to the next level.”

On Sunday, U2 fans also got to hear a new rendition of the 1991 Achtung Baby song “One” (which will be on their forthcoming 40-track LP Songs of Surrender — out March 17) during the NFL’s Walter Payton Man of the Year presentation.
