Chase Producer, SiriusXM Canada (Contract)

Reporting to Manager, Canada Talks

The Chase Producer is responsible for performing a range of duties in the creation of entertainment and talk programming. The qualified candidate must be able to organize a daily two-hour show from beginning to end, perform all pre- and post-show tasks, and have a well-rounded knowledge of global and Canadian news, politics, current affairs, pop culture, entertainment and sports.

Accountabilities

Production

  • Plan, organize and coordinate production of on-air programming in conjunction with show hosts and department management, in line with programming objectives.
  • Develop compelling and topical show ideas, conduct research as needed.
  • Chase and schedule guest interviews, both in-studio and remote.
  • Write and edit texts and scripts for broadcast, obtain necessary approvals.
  • Determine treatment, scope and scheduling of production, including recording and assembly of content.
  • Monitor quality of live and pre-recorded audio in accordance with established procedures and scheduling.
  • Assist in determining required resources and coverage.
  • Coordinate post-show follow up, including on demand content.
  • Assist with special features and specialty programming as required.
  • Contribute to social media posts, blogs and website updates.

Technical

  • Equipment operation (when required):
    • Operate broadcast studio equipment used for live broadcasts and pre-recorded programs, from SiriusXM studio or remotely.
    • Operate consoles to pick up feed sources from various locations.
  • Respond to malfunctions in accordance with established procedures.
  • Coordinate and monitor content for digital, in-app, on demand and other platforms as required.
  • Notify broadcast operations personnel of need for equipment repair or other technical issues.

Relationship Management

  • Cultivate and maintain relationships with industry stakeholders and partners.
  • Work professionally with hosts, technical producers, guests and co-workers.
  • Participate in group meetings; prepare status updates as required.
  • Attend news conferences and events on behalf of SiriusXM, as assigned.

Knowledge and Skill Requirements

Level of Education

  • Completion of a post-secondary radio and television arts program, or related studies.

Job-related Experience

  • 3-5 years’ relevant experience, with demonstrated background and expertise in live broadcast production
  • On-air experience an asset.
  • Entertainment and pop culture experience preferred.

  • Thorough knowledge of MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
  • Proficiency with project management and collaboration tools (Google Drive, Monday.com, etc.).
  • Ability to operate audio equipment used for live programs and broadcasts an asset.

Communications

  • This position requires normal tact and diplomacy when interacting with colleagues, guests and others to complete work activities, as well as the ability to listen attentively and demonstrate sensitivity towards the concerns or interests of others conveying information. Solid written and verbal skills are required to effectively respond to inquiries.
